"I'm so sick of Marisol." Ana muttered harshly, taking a sip of her drink. I was busy beating the eggs and flour to make a fresh batch of pastries.
"What happened?" My manager gave me a small smile as she took to the front desk. I returned her with one of my own.
"Late night grocery shoppings." Ana spat out, "She's been using that excuse forever to leave from work early. I should talk to her."
I stopped whisking the batter, my heart coming to a stand still. A sudden chill spread through my veins, grabbing hold of my throat and pressing it to stop air from entering.
My silence was deafening, it was maddening. My mind reeled to instances when Kevin hadn't returned from his nightly duties and suddenly dread filled me.
