Kiara

I was startled by a text from an unknown number during the second-to-last lecture before dismissal. "What the hell?!" I exclaimed, louder than intended, drawing the attention of everyone in the lecture hall, including the professor. My face flushed with embarrassment, I quickly apologized and exited the hall, my eyes fixed on the disturbing image on my phone.

A picture of Henry, my boyfriend, kissing another girl, sat on his lap, was accompanied by a message: "Thought you would want to know." I felt a tear roll down my cheek as I typed a response, "Who is this?" My mind raced with questions and doubts. Who was this person? How did they get my number? And, most importantly, was this really happening?

The reply came swiftly: "It's Chelsea," a friend from my old high school group. My heart sank, and I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. Chelsea and I had lost touch after graduation, but I never thought she'd be the one to betray me like this.

Overwhelmed, I collapsed to the floor, covering my face with my arms. Lexa and Suki rushed to my side, concern etched on their faces. "Oh my god, Kiara, is that you?" Lexa asked, her voice soft and gentle. I nodded, unable to speak, as tears streamed down my face.

They helped me up, and we headed to the dorm, where I shared the devastating news and the incriminating picture. Suki and Lexa offered words of comfort, agreeing that I deserved better. Lexa then suggested a party to take my mind off the heartbreak. Initially, Suki and I were hesitant, but Lexa's persistence and promise of a distraction eventually won us over.

"You need this, Kiara," Lexa said, her eyes sparkling with determination. "We need this. It's been a tough week, and we could all use a break. Besides, it's a college party. It'll be fun, I promise!"

Suki nodded in agreement, and I couldn't help but smile weakly at their enthusiasm. Maybe they were right. Maybe I did need a distraction from this mess. With a sigh, I agreed, and Lexa excitedly made plans, calling the group and arranging for Max to pick us up.

As we got ready for the party, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. Sadness, anger, and betrayal still lingered, but with my friends by my side, I felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe this party would be the start of something new, something that would help me move on from Henry and his infidelity. With a deep breath, I pushed aside my doubts and prepared to face the night ahead, ready to let go of my heartache and embrace the unknown.
