I didn't sleep a wink that night. I couldn't. It freaked me out knowing that Shaun, a possible psychopath killer, was stood right next to me. Sleeping with handcuffs wasn't the best way to find comfort but I got use to it after a while. I tried to ask Shaun as many questions possible to try and find at least a small point of view to see his innocence. I searched my own memory to try and find some proof of his presence at the time scarlet was killed, but I just couldn't find any. Was he lying to me? Or do I trust him. How can I trust a potential murderer?
The tension in my room was strong. "Alright. I'll help you" I replied. I might regret it. But if he really is innocent then I may just save someone's life. "Thank you piper. I can't tell you how much that relieves me. I promise I'm innocent" he replied with gratitude. "Let's hope so" I said. I'm not fully convinced but I'm going to give him a shot.
Our conversation went on until morning, for the embedded wall clock made sure to let us know with the deafening alarm. That's when I heard the metal door creak open. "Shaun go invisible quickly" I whispered urgently. He nodded and faded into the wall. No one would know he was here. Nurse Connie had reached my room and I hoped she wouldn't sus me out. She can't know, surely. Nurse Connie and Tyler escorted us to the bathrooms and allowed us to get ready. It was good to know that Parker was feeling his normal self again. After we had sorted ourselves out, we were taken back to our rooms.i was cuffed again. Still no more tests until he's found. He's right under our noses and they have no clue. Before I went to go back into my room I felt Parker tap me on the shoulder. I turned around quickly. "Yes?" I asked. He pulled me close and gave me a hug. I felt happy in his arms. But he rested his head on my shoulder and whispered to me, "don't do it piper. It could be a trick. I prefer your safety over his". "How did you-" I was cut off by nurse Connie. "Let's go love birds get in your rooms" she announced as she shoved me into the room. I must have fell on Shaun because he let out an 'ow'. Nurse Connie turned her head sharply. I gave a fake ow in hopes to disguise Shaun's. I think it played off cool.
The doors had shut and our food trays had emptied. I tucked some behind me for Shaun to eat. Nurse Connie and Tyler had left. When the door had slammed shut we were alone. "It's okay Shaun. You don't need to hide I know you're there" spoke Parker just loud enough for us to hear him. Shaun faded back into visibility at the angle the security cameras couldn't see in my room. "How did- how did you know? Did you tell him?!" Shaun accused me. "No I didn't say anything!" I replied in hopes of a defence, I mean if he really was a psycho killer I wouldn't want to be on his bad side. "He didn't have to. He saw into my mind. Now he can hear my thoughts and memories without needing to use his gift" I said with a sigh. I needed to keep trust in Parker and I was hoping the Shaun situation wouldn't come between us. Shaun tutted. "Well since you both know, I'll tell you my plan". Me and Parker both looked at him. "I need to see the security tapes. I feel like someone interfered with them" he asked. That's when I realised. "Wait I still have the camera Tyler leant me. I just didn't give it back hoping he would forget about it and he did. Shaun gave a smile. It had the footage on it. Me and Shaun went through the footage Five times in hopes of finding even the slightest difference but we found nothing. The sixth time we went through it I noticed something. "Wait!!" I shouted. "What?!" Asked Shaun. "Look there. It could be nothing but it could be what we are looking for". The shot showing everyone leaving their room, all of a sudden had zoomed a little. The surroundings were cut off and maybe someone intended to cut Shaun out and frame him. We both looked at each other. "Is that our proof?" He asked. "You might need something else. Heck I don't even believe you" commented Parker. "He had a point" I agreed. "I swear I'm innocent" Shaun pleaded. "Wait, Parker why don't you look through his memories with your gift. Then we will know for sure" I asked. "No! That's such an invasion of privacy! Especially because he can hear my thoughts whenever he wants!" Shaun got defensive. "That's not helping your case Shaun" I replied calmly. "I'm just not comfortable knowing he can hear my thoughts whenever he wants" he kept repeating. "Why? it's not that bad?" I asked. "Yeah that's because your head over heels for him" commented Shaun. I mean, he wasn't necessarily wrong but still. That's when we heard the door buzz open, and three sets of footsteps came echoing down the hall. There were guards. They'd come to take or dinner trays. Shaun managed to turn invisible just before they got to us. The guards took our trays and left. We hear their conversation as they made their way to the door. "So how do you think they'll kill that psycho killer?" Asked one of the guards. "Painfully I hope" replied the other one. Shaun came back into visibility and his face was full of fear. "okay I'll let you do it. I need to show that I'm innocent". I smiled and Parker had a curious look on his face. "Okay. Next time I have my shower come with me. Tyler usually waits outside so I can pretend to have one when I'll actually see if you are innocent" offered Parker. Shaun nodded his head and we eventually fell asleep.
The morning crept in. Tyler and Connie came to do our usual morning routine. When Connie opened the door I felt Shaun brush past me in his invisible form. He tapped Parker on the shoulder to let him know he was with him. They both went away to the bathroom and I couldn't see them any more. The entire time I was in the bathroom I couldn't stop thinking about them. I hope Parker was okay and I hope it wasn't a trap for Shaun to kill him since they didn't get off to the best start.
After my morning routine I was taken back to my room again. I saw Parker on the way back too and I assumed that Shaun was behind him. I was closer to my room than Parker so I tried to delay a bit to give Shaun more time to get to my room. We couldn't risk him being in Parker's because there were no blind spots for the security cameras.
Once we were both in our rooms, and the carers and guards were gone, we relaxed a little and Shaun came back to being visible. "Well?" I asked looking at Parker. "Well.. we have good news and we have bad news" replied Parker. Oh no. "The good news is I looked through his memories of that day, and he was with us the whole time. He saw everything and was with us when we heard Scarlett scream. He didn't go invisible once" said Parker with a positive tone. "So what's the bad news?" I asked probably going to regret asking though. "Tyler came in because he forgot my towel and saw Shaun and what I was doing with him. He freaked out at first but then he quieted down. He told us that he didn't think it was Shaun either and he believed my powers proving his memories. Tyler knows about Shaun and is going to keep it secret too. Besides even if he didn't I would've used my power to make him" Parker answered. That's when the door opened and I heard footsteps. Shaun went invisible again and I tried to act normal. At least I knew he was innocent. But then that leaves the question. If it wasn't Shaun? Who else could it have been? The footsteps became louder until the person came to our rooms. It was Tyler. Shaun you can come out it's okay I'm alone. Shaun became visible and have Tyler a smile. "Listen I need to tell you something important. I feel like they know. They know Shaun is here and I swear to you I didn't tell them anything" said Tyler with a concerned look on his face. That's when the door slammed open. Five guards came running down the hall. Tyler was hit in the face and fell onto the floor. They kicked him in the stomach and cuffed him. The other guards opened my door and tried to grab Shaun. "NO!" I screamed and tried to interfere but I had the stupid handcuffs on and couldn't use my powers. I was hit round the face and also knocked onto the floor. I saw them grab hold of Shaun as he tried to break free from their hold. He kicked the guard in the nuts and broke free. As he began to run he went invisible. The guard shot out a taser and it electrocuted Shaun causing him to fall to the ground and become visible again. My door locked and I couldn't do anything but watch Shaun and Tyler get dragged away. What the fuck do we do now.
