Falling stars

Last night I dreamed about falling stars
They came crashing down on earth
I tried to wake up, but the weight of my blankets had made a person
Strong hands pushed me back to sleep

And in the darkness
I missed something

Last night I wished for the loud voices that used to keep me up
I begged them to stay
My mind blurred their sound into a thousand gunshots echoing through my spine
Violently my mind was dragged away

And in the night
I missed them

Those blurry memories I didn't know were real
Two white flashes dancing across the sky
One wasn't enough, so I stayed, I waited and I saw
My wish crashing into the sea

And in the water
I missed you

Your hand reaching for mine, a voice telling me I would be fine
The singing of a hundred lost souls, trying to find something that wasn't there
Lights blurring, sounds fading
All falling into the smell of rain and a metal taste

And in the chaos
I missed myself

I longed for her like and old friend
I hungered for her broken smile and teary eyes, for all the broken little pretty things
I grabbed towards all the things I used to hate
Strangers, car lights, loud music and the people that were mine
As they all danced
And they laughed as they disappeared into the night sky

Like the falling stars
I missed
