For the dying

I left a gift for the dying
on my doorstep that night
A special box for those who cannot hold on to what we already lost

I think I heard you crying
About all that it had cost
That little silver thing, now thrown back to a river of light

But once you caught me flying
Out the wardens sight
You didn't try to save the heart I tossed
