A heavy silence fell over the room. We were all sitting on the chairs in the waiting room, silent, and if Lily hadn't been picked up by her dad, none of us would have moved. But even then, only Annie got up and led Lily to the front of the vet's office before returning to sit in a chair with her hands clasped over her stomach.

The vet told us that he had to perform an operation on the wolf, and Tobias told him that we would wait for the results. He then told me that I could go home if I wanted to, but I knew that I needed to stay a lot more than him, although I still wasn't sure if this was a safe situation for me.

Annie played on the phone while I sat next to Tobias, our shoulders touching. I had no idea what to say, and apparently neither did he. The conversation that lingered between us obviously had to outline a supernatural theme, and neither of us wanted that, so we were silent.

The whole time I was thinking that Tobias must have been in a similar situation before, since he knew exactly what to do, and I was determined to wait and see how it would turn out. I doubted he would save the wolf only to kill it himself, but I couldn't rule out the possibility. He was a hunter, after all, and I had seen first-hand that he was capable of hunting wolves. All I could do was hope that he never did it without a reason.

A few more minutes passed, and I began to grow restless. Any other time I didn't have a problem with patience, but this atmosphere was making me very anxious, and I desperately needed to take my mind off things. So, following Annie's example, I took my phone out of my pocket and started clicking on random icons, hoping to find something interesting.

I noticed out of the corner of my eye that it wasn't long before Tobias did the same. I saw him type something, quickly taping the screen, and a second later my own phone vibrated.

Confused, I turned my attention back to the screen and noticed that I had a new message.

Your future husband Tobias: Are you okay?

In spite of the seriousness of the situation, I let out a small laugh before quickly biting down on my lip to prevent another one. Instead, I decided to text him back.

Colby: I'm fine. Don't worry

Once again, I caught a glimpse of Tobias turning his head towards me, but I didn't react as I waited for him to text me back.

Your future husband Tobias: Everything will be fine. I promise

Despite his reassuring words, I felt the exact opposite, but I didn't want to say it out loud. And that's why I didn't know what to say next. I didn't want to lie, I didn't want to make light of the situation, and I didn't want to worry him. I felt like I was back at the beginning, when neither of us knew how to start a conversation.

The only thing that could save the situation was for the door to be opened. That's how I would know what was coming and how this situation was going to develop.

Fate decided to fulfil my wish. Just not in the way I wanted.

Before any of us could react, the door to the waiting room slammed open and banged against the wall next to it. The little bell above added to the cacophony, as if to warn us that something bad was about to happen.

The source of the noise was a man. Tall, muscular, and obviously angry. A single whiff of wind told me why. He was a werewolf, and he was obviously looking for something, or rather someone.

"Where's my mate?!"

He was clearly overcome with rage and could hardly see anything in front of him. His words echoed around the room, hanging in the air as none of us answered him.
