Despite Tobias' reassurances that everything would be fine, I couldn't help the nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach.
I had been outside his house before, but no one had seen me (or so I thought) and, most importantly, no one knew what I was. I trusted Tobias when he said no one would hurt me, but I still didn't think it would go as smoothly as our Alpha had imagined. After all, he didn't know the whole story.
"You have no reason to be nervous." Tobias must have sensed my nervousness and his hand landed on my thigh. He was currently on the road to his house, as fortunately his car was fine where he'd left it a few days ago, and we agreed that it would be best if he was the one to drive.
"What about me?" Mason asked from the backseat. His tone didn't sound like there was any concern there. Mason had to be able to keep his cool in any situation and this was no different.
"You both have nothing to worry about," Tobias assured him, looking at him through the mirror. "I'm just panicking because of the rush. I'd rather have time to prepare everyone and not put them in front of a fait accompli, but I'm sure they'll react just fine."
"Are they all at home?" I asked. After all, there were 25 of them, not counting the ones I already knew, there were 21, and that was still a frightening number. That meant Mason and I had to convince more than twenty people that we weren't a threat.
"Micah and Raylynn are at work right now, but they should be back tonight. Josh and Rick had some errands to run, but there's a chance they'll be back by now. The rest of them should be at home."
"Who should we be most concerned about?" Mason asked.
A similar question formed in my mind, but I didn't dare ask. After all, this was Tobias' family, and if he trusted them, so should I.
"The older members of the clan may be more cautious, but there is no need to worry. Even after all they've been through, they still follow the rules, so they have no reason to hurt you. Devin will probably have a lot of questions, but I think he will make more jokes at my expense. Rick might take longer to be friendly, but that goes for all people, not just you." Tobias was concentrating on the road, but occasionally his eyes drifted to me.
"You've both got Lily on your side already, and that's more than you know," he added, smiling.
"Do you think Annie said anything to them?" Even though I had overheard their conversation, I still didn't know what the exact plan was. Annie was also sure that everything was going to be fine, but I didn't know if that was because she was taking care of it, or if she just thought it would.
"I'm not sure," Tobias admitted. "You can text her and ask her if you want." He took a phone out of his pocket and handed it to me. I hesitated, but then unlocked it and found Annie in his contacts.
"How are things at home?" I repeated aloud what I'd written and when Tobias nodded, I hit the send button. I could only hope that Annie would reply soon, as we were less than five minutes from their house.
Thankfully, my pleas were answered. "I told everyone that you had important news for them. I also told them that if they don't listen, they will suffer my wrath. Rob will take care of the wolves." Tobias burst into laughter when I finished reading and I had to join him. The thought of a furious pregnant Annie was enough to allay my fears, for I was sure that no one would want to cross her.
"Who's Rob?" Mason asked.
"My brother-in-law."
"Is he one of them?" Mason's question made me turn to the front, where the familiar house was already visible. Two figures I didn't recognise stood in front of it and I turned to Tobias with a silent question.
