The heat was almost over.

I felt much more like myself, and Tobias and I spent less and less time in the bedroom.

Right now we were lying together on the couch, cuddling, not knowing how much time we had left together. The uncertainty was terrifying, but I pushed it to the back of my mind and concentrated on the present moment. It wasn't every day that I got to hold my mate in my arms, and I was going to make the most of it.

"I wish we could stay like this forever," I murmured into the crook of his neck. Even though I couldn't bite him and he couldn't carry my scent, his neck clearly showed that he was mine, and, to be honest, in my heat-crazed state, I didn't even think about how it would look when he returned to the normal world with a neck full of hickeys.

At least his voice was a bit better.

"Me too." His sweet words almost dispelled my lustful thoughts, but hearing his still raspy voice did wonders for me. It wasn't as uncontrollable as it had been a few days ago, though, so I just mumbled defeatedly into his T-shirt.

Tobias laughed, knowing exactly what was causing my reaction, and then I felt him plant a soft kiss on the top of my head. He was acting sweet, as if I hadn't found out what a sexual monster he really was in those few days.

The silence between us was peaceful, and we didn't have to say more. We were simply listening as our hearts synchronised and beat the same. It was strange to know that Tobias was hearing the same things I was, but I kept finding out more and more about him, and I was sure I didn't know everything yet. But one thing was for sure, the hunters really didn't heal like we did.

I moved my head down to rest on his chest, his heartbeat slowly but surely lulling me to sleep.

"What was that?" At first, I didn't really register his words, so I just responded with a weak "Hmm?"

Then, however, I began to focus on my surroundings, too, and I knew exactly what he was talking about. But before I could say anything, my front door burst open, and a panting Cobe ran into the living room.

Tobias and I both sat up at the same time, still holding each other, and Cobe's gaze immediately landed on us. "I couldn't stop them."

I didn't have time to ask who he meant, and before I saw them, my nostrils were filled with their scent. My family.

They appeared behind Cobe, and I was surprised to see not only my parents but Cora as well. My eyes didn't stay on them for long, though, as I quickly glanced at Tobias beside me to see his reaction. It was the first time he'd seen my whole family together, and I hadn't had a chance to prepare him for that.

Despite the fact that they were looking right at him, he did not let go of me, quite the opposite. His hands moved to my waist, and he gently pulled me closer. And since I was theoretically closer to them than he was, he used me somewhat as a shield, which I immediately reinforced by partly leaning against him.

"Mum, Dad," I addressed them, clearing my throat. Their eyes finally shifted to me.

"Thanks for noticing me, brother," Cora commented sarcastically. She was the least of my problems in this situation, so I decided to ignore her. Instead, I glanced at Cobe, and he immediately gave a subtle shake of his head, indicating that he hadn't told them anything.

However, our silent exchange did not escape our mother's sharp eyes. "No, no." She pointed a warning finger at both of us. "No more secret conversations."

I cleared my throat again, thinking quickly of what to say, but my Mum beat me to it. "Colby Sebastian Silas, when were you going to tell us that you had not only found your mate but that you were together?"
