Seattle
2 months laterElise POV:
2 months into my new life and things are actually going great. I have a job that pays, a car that isn't Roman's. Don't need him trying to find me.
And a good place to stay.
A couple weeks ago Luca approached me with the idea that he should start teaching me ways of defense. Roman used to teach me but since that's not happening I have Luca.
So today he took me to this field, not like a cute grassy field, like some military looking field with instead of grass it's dead grass and dirt.
It's far away from the city and people so he thinks it's a safe spot. We've been training for days and today he's got me shooting a bow and arrow.
So far I've missed about a million and the other times I've hit the target they weren't anything close to a bullseye.
"Can we continue this tomorrow, have you seen the amount of times I've done this", I say to Luca irritated. He stands there staring at me with his arms crossed.
"Fine", he gave in. I sigh and throw down the bow. "But moving on", he says. My face drops and I glare at him.
"You thought you were done?" he laughs right in my face when I'm still glaring. He activates a grenade and tosses it to me.
I try to react fast and throw it. It blows up in the air. "Faster", he said. Bends down into his bag and grabs another. "We'll keep going until you don't even think about it, until it's like a reflex", he tosses it again and I act.
We were at this for about two hours before it was actually like a reflex. I sometimes wonder how Luca knows these things. But then I also remember the amount of time he's been gone and he could've been doing all sorts of things.
"Work tonight?" Luca asks. "Yeah", I answered. Getting to our apartment I quickly took a shower and changed into some casual clothes. I tied the laces to my black converse and stood.
Luca was standing in the kitchen on his phone texting. He had this concentrated look in his face. Furrowed brow type look.
"Another?" I questioned him. He didn't look up just shoved his phone in his back pocket. "I'll deal with it", he growled, grabbing his keys and leaving the door open for me.
I grabbed mine we got in our cars, parting ways. As well as I Luca is hiding from people. He says he has this friend who tells him whenever someone gets the least bit close to finding him.
And when that happens, he deals with them. He's never let me come or see, he says he just wants me to live my new life.
I try to respect it because everyone has a past, whether it's good or bad you can't always get rid of it, yet Luca tries.
Telling him to stop or to move on won't help. He's about as stubborn as I am. Can't blame him.
I arrived at my job, a little diner called Linda's Diner. I like its charm, it's like a rom com movie.
The little bell ringed above my head as I walked through the threshold. I was a waitress, it was easy and it was staring to grow on me.
I've never had a job before and I sort of enjoyed it. The feel of doing a good job and actually earning money instead of it just being handed to you.
It was riveting.
I walked to the back where my locker was and grabbed my hair tie. Tied my hair into a ponytail and wrapped my apron around my waist. I always leave my phone in my locker so I don't have distractions.
I took a deep breath and went out. I could finally start my life over the way I wanted. Have the peace I want and deserve.
