Chapter 10

***********************************

I had imagined Chicago as a fun place back when I lived with my parents.

That vision was the exact opposite of the reality.

The whole place was trashy and had graffiti everywhere. The train station looked like a tornado had blown through it. As Wisty and I stepped off the train, we saw that President McLachlan's face was everywhere stating her laws.

One had a very civilized picture of her sitting down at a big table. The law said ' No Partying should take place anywhere, and always use your manners.' That was the one I hated most of all.

I can remember back when I was about 8, my parents had a big party at thier house. It was so wonderful!!! We danced and sang and ate all sorts of delicious food.

That was the year McLachlan took over. She began like any other president would, but ended with our livelyhood and economy at stake.

I really hated thinking about my parents like they were gone. I didn't want to think that but that was my only thought. Once I ran away they would have no reason to fight.

Part of me hoped to find my parents as I left them. Sitting on the couch talking to each other. Having a cup of coffee. But the other half of me knew that it was almost impossible they had survived.

We headed out to catch the other train that would take us to New Orleans. We waited about 15 minutes before the train was ready to board. Then we were off.

I had the feeling this wasn't any regular train ride. But I don't know why. With a sinking feeling, I knew I was about to find out.
