Chapter 12

************************************

When we all finally reached the station in Alabama, we rented a car so we could drive the rest of the way.

My old adress was about 2 minutes outside of downtown Birmingham. The place brought back so many memories.

The time I rode my first bike, the time I scraped my knees running down the hill, the town decorated for the holidays.

It was overwhelming.

I can still remember my mother scolding me for running down that hill, but also her helping to patch me up. That was one of my finer memories.

I still had that peculiar feeling that someone else was living my life at home while I was 'away'. I told myself to shake it off, but I was still prepared for the worst.

We entered my old neighborhood and as we pulled up to my old house, I felt tears beginning to brim in the corners of my eyes.

The house was just as I imagined it to be. It was exactly how I remembered it. The lawn was still somewhat green, the door was the same shade of brown and the house was the same type of brick. It was all original, untouched by McLachlan's laws.

Now all I wanted was for my parents to come running out at me.

"Ivy, Ivy...wake up Ivy"

What? Why did that disembodied voice want me to wake up? I was already awake. Wasn't I?

"Ivy, wake up, we're here."

I felt a shake on my shoulder. I took a big stretch. What was I doing here? I was in Alabama wasn't I?

Then it dawned on me. "It was all a dream!!!!" I said aloud.

"What?" Wisty questioned

"I had the most wonderful dream about going to my old house and finding it exactly like I left it."

"Oh, Ivy you know there is a small chance that is the reality of it right?"

"I know." I said sadly "But it was fun to dream."

We gathered up our things and headed off the train. Our first look at Alabama wasn't that great. I knew the train station was in the bad part of downtown, Birmingham so I wasn't worried.

Just like the dream, we rented a car and drove for about an hour to get to my old neighborhood.

This was the moment of truth. Would my parents be there? Would I still be able to live there? Would the place be just like I left it?

All these questions and more swam around in my head as we drove along the familiar roads of my hometown.
