"Can we talk elsewhere?"
"Sure."
Wu Xie watched the park overlooking the car where Zhang Kylin parked. The way he became jittery had his chest clenching so badly as he anticipated the worst from the handsome man.
Did he still need explanations after all these years? Wu Xie's not too sure.
"Hey."
Wu Xie forced himself to face Zhang Kylin, his lips twitching to a small smile.
"I'm sorry."
"No, it's okay-" It came out of Wu Xie's mouth like a default as if it was fine for everyone to hurt him because he deserved him.
"It's not okay, Wu Xie. It's not," Zhang Kylin gulped, squeezing Wu Xie's hand gently. His chest might explode anything if he didn't tell it all. "That night. Did you see the picture?"
A flash of the photo crossed Wu Xie's mind, and he nodded.
"It had been there since we broke it. I always stayed at the house, so I didn't have time to throw it away."
Zhang Kylin took a deep breath before continuing. "I know I messed up. I won't try to justify it. I know thousands of apologies won't fix what happened."
The dark eyes sheened with tears, and Wu Xie wiped the tears that fell.
"I love you, Wu Xie. Please give me a chance. One last chance, baby." Zhang Kylin cupped Wu Xie's hand, nuzzling his palm.
Wu Xie watched quietly. His rapid heartbeat came to a slow before numbness took over.
A chance.
It was too much to ask. Wu Xie's afraid, that's given. What would happen if Zhang Kylin had a change of heart? What would happen to him? He might be crumbled, shattered to pieces beyond fixing.
"I... I'm scared." The doe's eyes quivering, glistening with fear. "I have always been... unwanted."
His head ached when the memories rushed into his head, playing it like an old record again. "My dad.. rather, it had me dead. Ershu... Sanshu..." Wu Xie snickered, wiping his tears.
Ah, how long had it been since his sanshu abandoned him?
"My sanshu left because he didn't want to take care of me." The sad smiles never left his face. "Xiao Hua also didn't wanna entertain me because..."
Wu Xie swore he was over this, but he sobbed hard. Too hard, tears falling from his eyes like a waterfall. Zhang Kylin wasted no time in embracing Wu Xie, keeping him safe in his arms, letting each sob stab his heart.
Oh, dear. How could he put Wu Xie through hell?
"I'm... so- sorry, Zhang.. Kylin."
Zhang Kylin hushed him, running his fingers through the soft locks gently, attempting to calm Wu Xie down. Tears started brimming in his eyes too as he reminisced all the horrible things he did to Wu Xie.
Zhang Kylin did this. He caused this agonising pain, yet he asked for another chance shamelessly. Guilt bubbled up in his heart.
The sobs took time to subside, Wu Xie sniffled, nose red and eyes swollen at the end of it. The bottled feelings inside just came out. He, again, let himself be vulnerable because he trusted Zhang Kylin.
Wu Xie pulled away from the hug, wiping unhelpfully on the wet patches of the older man's shirt. His hand was snatched away, gently, before soft lips pressed against his hand. Wu Xie dragged his eyes up, letting himself lost in the black pearl eyes again.
