In a humble house lived Rick Sanchez, a retired scientist, with his beloved husband, Lorax, a local tree caretaker. The Lorax wanted to have children, but Rick always found some excuse for that not to happen. Regardless, they loved each other very much, or at least that's what the Lorax believed.–See you later, my sunflower seed! I'm going to work. – said Lorax affectionately addressing his beloved
–Bye, darling. – Rick replied with a fake smile on his face.
Whenever the orange creature went to work, the scientist distracted himself by taking brief trips to other dimensions using his portal gun.
In the dimension of Ooo, he found a library and, enchanted by the idea of getting to know the literature of another Earth, he entered the structure without hesitating.
While looking for some interesting story, he ended up dropping a book. The man leaned over to pick up the book, until his hands met those of a beautiful antiquarian. It didn't take long for both of them to exchange glances. It was love at first sight. Their faces turned red like cherries and a tingling sensation arose in their stomachs.
–Let me help you sir...
–Rick.Rick Sanchez. And you are...
–Simon Petrikov. Nice to meet you! Are you also interested in 'Machado de Assis' ? –said Simon, since the book knocked down was "O Alienista" by Machado de Assis.
-Oh yes! I looked for this book everywhere but I never found it.
–So you are an interdimensional traveler? how fantastic!
Rick feels butterflies in his stomach – yes I am.
The two spent the afternoon reading together.
So, every day Rick would leave the house to see the antiquarian, but as he would take a while to get home, the Lorax began to suspect what might be happening.
Lorax, instead of going to work, decided to follow Rick in disguise. The mustached orange being saw his husband enter the library's bathroom accompanied by another person. Rick, so focused on his new love, forgot to lock the door, conveniently allowing the Lorax inside. When he entered, he burst into tears: his husband was kissing another man.
–R-rick...– he said in a trembling voice.
–Lorax, my love! I can explain! – replied Rick.Simon in turn was confused. Rick had never said he was in a relationship already.
–Rick, why didn’t you ever tell me that you already had a partner?
–Simon, I would tell you later, I swear! – the man replied in despair.
Lorax ran away crying, while Simon slapped Rick in the face and ran to comfort the poor soul.
–Hey, pal... I'm sorry about what happened, Rick didn't tell me anything about it...
-It's okay, it wasn't your fault.
the antiquarian stroked the tree caretaker's head for a while.– You know, maybe we could get to know each other better, if you want. By the way, my name is Simon Petrikov.
-I'm the Lorax, I speak for the trees! And yes, it seems like a good idea.
Time passed and they both started to like each other. Lorax didn't care about the fact that Simon was her ex-husband's lover, after all, he didn't know anything. They got married and had a beautiful son.
Rick didn't have such a happy ending, they say he died in that bathroom of regret and sadness.
