Chapter 22 - The Final Fight

Outside the GRC building, Flagsmashers are preparing for the worst. Karli tells them, "The movement is ready. They're not going to stop. Not unless we make them. It's time."

Meanwhile, at Bucky's apartment, a news reporter makes an announcement. "We have breaking news. There's a complete lockdown at the GRC meeting in Lower Manhattan where authorities are saying they're tracking multiple threats from groups seeking to stop the GRC's vote on global resettlement. There is a no-fly zone in effect...And the NYPD has the area secured for the moment. Everyone is urged to stay clear."

While the news is covering the attack at the GRC, Bucky prepares to leave as he has all his weaponry on him. Becca is by the door hugging Loki. He whispers in her ear, "Come back to me—both of you."

Becca whispers back, "You're not going to lose us. I promise."

Before Bucky leaves, Sofia takes his hand and looks at him with sad eyes. He takes her by the waist and kisses her forehead. She sighs as the weight of everything makes her feel uneasy. He looks into her eyes. "I love you," she said. "Promise me you'll be safe."

Bucky gives her a passionate kiss and replies, "I love you too. And I promise." He then lets go. Becca and Bucky then head out the door.

Sometime later, Sam is en route to the GRC building. Flying in his new suit. Over the radio, Sam says, "I'm almost there."

At the same time, Becca and Bucky are walking to the building. "What's the plan?" asks Bucky.

"Karli's gotta be close. Keep your eyes open."

"Well, it could be anybody," Becca implied.

"Sergeant Barnes," says one Police Officer allowing them to enter the perimeter. "Agent Barnes."

"And by the way, I called in some backup," Sam informed them.

A man approaches them and says, "Excuse me. Are you supposed two be here?"

Becca and Bucky turn as they see Sharon removing a mask from her face. "It's me," she replied.

Confused, Bucky asks, "Sharon, what the hell are you doing here?"

"Relax. No one's looking for me here."

"Do I hear Sharon?" asks Sam.

"Unfortunately," Bucky replied as he, his sister, and Sharon start walking to the building.

"Bucky," Becca snapped.

"Hey, Sam," says Sharon. "I thought I'd get the band back together."

"Thank you," Sam replied. "You're risking a lot coming here."

"I hear pardons aren't all they're cracked up to be anyway."

"Depends on the therapist," Bucky commented.

"They're gonna move on the building soon," said Sam. "Be ready."

Karli looks up as she sees Sam flying up in the air. "He's here," she says. "Do it now."

Inside the building, the Flagsmashers throw smoke bombs to get GRC Diplomats to leave the room. As they leave, chaos emerges. "Keep your head down," shouts a Man. "Move toward the door, sir." People are coughing and having a hard time breathing. Then a few seconds later, Sam crashes through the window and makes his pose.

Becca, Bucky, and Sharon are at the entrance. "Sharon, Bucky, Becca, what's going on, on your end?" asks Sam.

"Nothing," Bucky replied. "All quiet. No one's moving toward the building."

"Karli's not coming in," said Sam. "She's trying to force everybody out. East evac teams... It's a misdirect. We gotta keep everybody inside." Becca, Bucky, and Sharon run to the main entrance.
