Summary: John Wick/TO pre-John Wick 2. John had moved to one of his safe houses in the country when he saw a car driving erratically. Cami was driving Hope to the safe house when she was cursed by Dahlia. She crashes the car into a tree and is fatally injured since she was still human. John runs to the car and sees the baby in the back and Cami. She tells him that Hope is being targeted by Dahlia. Now, John thinks she means the former assassin Black Dahlia. So, Cami made John promise to protect Hope.
John Wick 2 happens later in the timeline. His bounty is suspended due to him now being tasked with a protection detail. John gains temporary allies in this endeavor.
Black Dahlia is known as a ruthless woman with connections all over the world. Her record for kills has not been broken, not even by John Wick himself. She is presumed dead but soon comes out of retirement with her name getting tossed around. When she finds out why, she tracks down John to clear the air.
The Mikaelsons don't find Hope until she breaks her curse. John has been her only parental figure for 17 years. Throughout the years he learned about the supernatural, especially with Hope's bouts of accidental magic. He also trains her to be able to defend herself. This is how she ended up killing someone trying to kill her and John.
