Bucky is referred to as James Barnes, cuz basically, he was not referred to as Bucky during his time as the Winter Soldier. Thats why he was like "Who the hell's Bucky?" when Steve called him that.

"Your timetables have been changed. Two new targets, level 6. I want them dead in 72 hours." Alexander Pierce gave you and Barnes your mission.
You were part of HYDRA. Not by choice, you were caught and experimented on, just like Barnes. While he had an awesome metal arm, you had telekinesis and energy rays. This wasn't the first mission that the two of you have been given.
The both of you have been partners since day 1. You had been newly 'recruited' and was posted to train with James Barnes. It was tough, both of you having flash backs of your pasts from time to time.
He was there for you and you were there for him. You knew each other so well. There was a certain bond you both shared.
Due to the tough training, the both of you were regarded as two of the best assassins ever.
*flashback*
"C'mon old man, you gotta try harder than that!" You were sparring him and you had successfully pinned him down.
"Seriously, I was going easy on you." He got up and stretched.
After another round, he was still the one pinned to the ground.
"You were saying?" You cracked half a smile.
He grunted as you pulled him up.
"Hey Barnes whats wrong? You're not usually like this... And you're not that easy to pin down most of the time..." you took a step closer to him.
"Its- Its the visions... Th-they're back..." he whispered looking at his feet.
He looked so broken and lost, you did what you thought you'd never do. You gave him a hug.
"I know that we're both just emotionless killers now. But you are my friend. And I really do... care about you..." you looked up at him sadly.
"I...I really care about you too..." he furrowed his eyebrows.
Then, he leant in and kissed you. It was the best kiss you've ever had and you couldn't be happier to be paired with him.
"Partners?" He breathed.
"Partners." You nod.
*Present day*
"Angel, what are you thinking about?" He wrapped his metal arm around you.
"Just, old times." You looked into his eyes.
"Im glad we are partners..." he nodded and tightened his grip around you.
"Im glad we are..." you reassure.
