Clint:
"So, um, I've never done this before. And I sure as hell wasn't expecting to do this for my own family." Clint tried to crack a joke but his expression just fell and his eyes watered.
He cleared his throat before speaking again to the mass of grief stricken people.
"I do this thing where, before I leave for work, I'll make sure to call them. Just in case," he paused and took a sharp breath, "in case I wouldn't make it back."
"I do this when Im done with my job too... During the call, we just spend 5-10 minutes catching up, making sure each others fine, apologising for anything that the other has done or just pure silence." He took a deep breath and wiped his sweaty palms on his pants.
Everytime he spoke he saw a different memory of the both of you.
Your first meeting, first date, first kiss, wedding day, anything.
"But no matter how it went, it ended the same way. 'I love you Short stack. Make sure the kids hear this too. I love you kids. Daddy will be home soon.' And my dear wife would reply, 'Seeing you come home is enough. I love you Katniss.'" He looked up to stop the flow of tears.
"Im not here to tell you all about what a great woman (Y/N) is because Im sure you know this. I saw her die in my arms but before that she managed to leave me an important message. And a promise Ill never forget." He stopped himself for a few seconds.
"Move on. Go have another adventure. Just dont forget about ours."The memory of your voice, weak and fading, saying the exact same words, played through his mind.
"And I think its something we all need to do. (Y/N) will forever be in our hearts and memories." He paused as if he wanted to say more. But he couldnt form any words and struggled to compose himself.
"Thats all I can say, thank you." Clint looked up into the crowd. He saw your family and the tears he held back were released. He got off the podium and made his way back to his seat.
Natasha was right there beside him, helping him through it all as he bawled out into her shoulder.
The funeral ended quickly, thankfully, but Clint was still stuck in observation. Hes had visits from Steve, Tony, Bruce, Nat and many more. Even Sharon Carter came to see him.
And finally, the day came where he was allowed to leave that dark hole. He agreed to stay with Tony, Pepper and Steve at the Avengers tower for the time being.
As he took a step out into the fresh air, after weeks of cold air-conditioning and heaters, he looked to the sky in hopes that his beautiful family could hear him.
"I promise." He crossed over his heart.
