Sophie
Sophie took in the classroom and fixed every student with her calculating gaze, reading them. She was great at this and it saved her lots of trouble, knowing who to avoid.
She didn't find anyone suspicious until she saw a familiar-looking blond-headed boy. She met his gaze and when she saw his eyes, she immediately recognized him. Keefe Sencen. Her memory flipped to his mother Gisela Sencen, a leader of the Neverseen. Her gaze hardened as she surveyed him, remembering the horrible things his mother had done and how she talked about her son's legacy.
Sophie always thought that he would be in on it but as as she surveyed him, he didn't seem to. Her gaze softened as she gave him a small smile.
He looked at her with a mildly shocked expression as if he didn't know she could do that and she almost laughed if the teacher hadn't chosen that moment to tell her to introduce herself.
She almost rolled her eyes and replied with a snarky comeback that went along the lines of "what are we, in kindergarten?" But she figured that wouldn't help her reputation so she went with "My name is Sophie Foster, I'm 16 and I was born in San Diego."
She wanted to laugh at everyone's expressions when she said she was 16. "Guess they've never had a student like me before," she thought. Her teacher looked at her with an impressed manner and told her to sit in the empty seat, which happened to me right next to Keefe.
Keefe
He watched her as she sat down next to him and she caught his gaze. He flushed and almost looked away in embarrassment but not before he saw her smile at him. He gave a small smirk back and looked back at Fitz who was staring at Sophie with a bewildered expression.
He followed her gaze back to Sophie and almost choked when he saw that she had her earbuds. In Mr. Bronte's class! The hardest teacher and the hardest subject, AP Calc.
He reached his hand to tap her before Mr. Bronte noticed, but it was too late. Mr. Bronte had turned around and was now stomping towards her. He yanked her earbuds and shouted, "Why are you listening to music while I am teaching?"
Sophie
Sophie glared at him and he faltered a bit as if no one had done that before. But his anger came back full force and he glared back. "Miss Foster, do you think that just because you're new here, you can get off the hook for not paying attention." If it were any other student they probably would've cowered but Sophie being Sophie, she just had to retort.
She looked up at him with innocent eyes and responded, "No Mr. Bronte, I don't think that," she paused and saw him relax a bit. He had no idea what was coming. She gave a small smile and continued, "I only think that this lesson is too easy and it isn't worth my time."
The whole class gasped and you could practically see steam coming out of Mr. Bronte's ears. When he spoke again it sounded more like a growl. "If you're so smart, young lady why don't you answer that question on the board." He smirked and pointed, like he thought she wouldn't be able to do it but all it took was one glance and she had the answer.
When she recited it, everyone's jaws dropped.
Keefe
When she perfectly recited the answer, his jaw dropped. He spun around to see Fitz with the exact same expression. Fitz was the smartest in the class, and even needed a moment to think while Sophie barely took a glance and knew the answer.
He watched as Mr. Bronte shuffled away, flabbergasted. That was a first. The only other person he had seen do that was Dame Alina and it was only because she was the principal.
BRING! BRING! BRING!
He thanked the gods for letting him make it through this lesson without any homework but he mostly had Sophie to thank for that.
He gathered his stuff and scanned the crowd for Sophie but she was gone. He deflated a little on the inside but held on to the little thread of hope that she would be in his next class.
~Time Skip~
He was disappointed. She wasn't in his class but now it was lunch. Everyone would be there, which is why it would be the best time to get to know her better.
He sat down at his usual table with Fitz and all his friends. Biana Vacker, Dex Diznee, Marella Redek, Linh Song and Tam Song.
He took a bite of his food just as he heard Marella ask, "Did any of you see the new girl? She wasn't in any of our classes," she said while pointing at herself, Biana, and Dex. Keefe flashed his trademark smirk and said "I saw her, she was in our class." The rest of the group excluding Fitz gaped at him.
"I thought she was in grade 10," Biana muttered after a few seconds of silence. "She is or- was," he replies indicating that he heard her. "She's 16." Biana's gaze flicked to him and was about to say something when her eyes widened. But she wasn't looking at Keefe, she was looking past him. Everyone follows her gaze and there standing in the middle of the cafeteria was the one and only Sophie Foster.
901 words!
This is the longest I've ever wrote! Also just for some clarification, Biana, Dex and Marella are in 10th grade. Tam and Linh are in 11th, and Keefe and Fitz in 12th.
Also, Thank you to everyone who has read this story!
