Chapter 12

"Okay remember, today is going to be for openings and beginning the trial. You won't have to be called until tomorrow, so just take some deep breaths and try not to focus on David too much, alright?"

Sidney sends me a very soft smile. 

"Yeah okay, I'll be alright."

"And remember," Sidney pauses. "I've known the judge for a good bit and had a few cases where she was the judge. Skye has a streak of believing the victim is cases like this. We got this!"

"We got this!" I repeat, more trying to make myself believe it. 

Sidney nods. "Okay, no go find your soulmates before you go in. I have a feeling they are just as nervous as you, even if they aren't showing it."

I wave goodbye to Sidney as she heads into the trial room, where David and his lawyer already reside. I take a deep breath, then head to the lobby area, immediately finding my soulmate group to the side of the doors.

"Y/N!" Felix comes bounding over, pulling me into a tight hug.

"Lixie I was gone for ten minutes at most," I joke, but still hug him back just as tight.

"Okay and?"

I just laugh, staying in his arms. His hugs are insanely comforting. 

"I take it you talked to Sidney?" Minho questions from behind Felix. 

I nod into Felix's shoulder. "Yeah she said today would be for openings and laying a bit of the story out since her and David's lawyer already went through the jury pool."

"So you don't have anything to do for today basically?" 

"Yep."

Minho nods his head. "Okay that's good."

Chan casts a glance at the opening to the courtroom and sighs. "I think it's time for us to get in there. You've got to get to your seat before the judge gets there."

"Yeah okay."

I pull away from Felix, very reluctantly. "I think I should just have you hug me the entire trial. It would definitely make me feel better."

Felix giggles in response, pressing a soft kiss to the tip of my nose. "I don't think that would be very professional. I don't really understand the justice system in the states, but I feel like it wouldn't be looked at very well."

"Alternatively," I draw out. "You hug me anyways and we just don't give a fuck."

"I'll be right behind you, with the rest of our soulmates. If you ever need reassurance, just look back at us," Felix assures me with a soft smile. "And I'll hug you as long as you want when we get back to the house."

"I'll take that deal."

Felix wraps an arm around my shoulders as we move to the courtroom, Changbin taking my hand on the other side. They all try to stand close to me as we reach the divider to the main floor of the room, only letting me go to my seat after sending David a few harsh, pointed glares. I sent them a grateful smile, then take my seat at the table beside Sidney.

"We got this," Sidney encourages, noticing my nerves.

"We got this."

"Alright, the charges being brought against Mr. Folly by the prosecution are as follows: stalking, assault and battery on multiple occasions, and attempted murder in the first degree. The defendant has pleaded not guilty, correct?"

David and his lawyer nod their heads yes. 

"Now that we are all aware of the charges being brought against Mr. Folly, the prosecution may begin their opening statement. Jury, I urge you to listen close to both opening statements."
