'Many days later and some how this world still confuses me. I've watched so much, I've always been a watcher. I've always loved it. I think I understand more from watching then I could from joining in. But watching theses days now; scares me-' the ink from her pen jumped, causing a small line forming on the paper.
"Madeline get down here!" The raspy voice was heard loud and clear from the highest level of the farm house. It echoed off the walls, till finally reaching the small bedroom at the very top. As if her sage green painted walls were talking. Which she always loved the idea of.
The girl looked down her at now ruined paper, for she was a perfectionist when it came to her journal, knowing she'll be no longer allowed to use such paper, she had just written on. She quickly grabbed all of her long brown hair pushing it to her back with a scoff. "Coming!" She shouted, hoping the people down stairs would hear her. Hoping her green walls would slowly talk to the white ones down the stairs. Giving them a notice.
Her green eyes paced to the ground, seeing her farm boots sitting at the floor of her twin sized bed. With one quick movement she was sitting on the bed; putting on her muddy boots. For her room wasn't very big; quite small actually. But it did have the best view.
She quickly turned to the cold breeze hitting her from her open window. It was summer, but she was a skinny girl. The sightly amount of wind could make her shiver. And it always did, many say it's because she was a premature. So she's more sensitive to the cold or something. Madeline was too busy in her head to ever pay attention to what they rambled on about, forming reasons for why she is the way she is.
The girl stood up facing the window, pushing it shut. At the same time Madeline heard a door slam open, hitting the wall behind it. With a loud thud, Madeline's eyes went wide, knowing what this world has become. The sound of rushing was never a good sign. Any loud noise is cause of concern. And in their quiet farmhouse, there wasn't ever a need for such a loud sound. Of course that was before the end of the world they once knew.
With that her feet took a fast pace, as she was almost jumping down the stairs. All she could do in that moment was just hope everyone was okay. If she had even thought about it she would have said a prayer, while she skipped every step she could. She kept doing that till she heard someone shouting again. This time not at her. It was a the thick country accent of her father. "Was he bit?"
Madeline quickly reached the ground floor, the second she did as saw the scene in front of her. She about ran the opposite way. But yet she was almost shell shocked as the site. At that moment she could hear her heart beat in her ears, trying to escape the body they were trapped in.
It reminded her of the one time for father killed a cow, for her dad was trying to teach her the importance of hunting. And having a farm to get your own food. But the blood, how much there was. It had left Madeline screaming. That's the day the family decided to sell their cattle.
