Chapter 14

Farrah

I put vegetables on my rice that morning with fury. That asshat. Can't she realize what I'm trying to do here? I just don't want to see another person die, and all she says is that it's fine. How could she not care? But... I can't control other people. It's going to be alright. I sighed and set my food down on the table. Abyasa came up from behind me and tapped me on the shoulder.

"Mad at my cooking skills, huh?"

"No, I'm annoyed at someone, and I'm about to be annoyed at two people if you don't leave my general vicinity within three seconds." I barked at him.

"Okay, Miss. pissy-pants." He said, backing up with his hands in front of him.

"Leave me alone. I'm upset. Why don't you go to work." I huffed.

"Why don't you go to school?" He shot back at me.

I huffed.

"See, I'm right some of the time."

"Shut up and eat your food," I said, shoving rice into my mouth. Abyasa sat down beside me and started to eat.

That night, when Abyasa came home, he was holding a letter.

"What's that for?" I asked him

"It's your acceptance letter to Ta'miriyah."

"What? Really?" I said, grabbing the letter from his hands and opening it.

"Yup, I have some connections there, and since it's the beginning of a new school year, they accepted you."

"I've never gone to school before..." I whispered, holding onto the acceptance letter like it was a gift from some type of god. "I can't believe this. Thank you, Abyasa."

He opened his arms for a hug, and I willingly hugged him. To think that he'd go so far for me was crazy. I looked up and smiled at him. He brushed the hair out of my eyes.

"Hey," I said, almost scared to ask, "Umm... How old are you?"

He laughed. "I turned nineteen just a few months ago."

I was shocked. "And you already became a detective?"

"No, not really. I was allowed to become a detective at an early age because they found that I had a lot of potential. You know, I never went to High School. I was bullied in Junior High, so I dropped out of school, but I'm glad that you're able to go." He made a weak smile, and he wasn't afraid to show it.
