Chapter 29

Farrah

I'm sitting in a wooden chair. A rope snakes around my ankles and wrists. The room that I'm in is large with a piano in the middle. It looks like an abandoned ballroom. I shouldn't try to escape. There's no guarantee that I'd be able to get out, and I don't know where I am. I sigh, leaning back into the chair, and look up. The ceiling is falling apart.

I have a good idea of who brought me here.

Ah, here he is now.

I flick my eyes to the door. I can hear footsteps from the other side. The moon shifts, and as the door opens, a chill runs down my spine. Half of his face is covered in shadow, making one of his eyes seem to glow in the moonlight.

He's holding something in his right hand.

Tuhan...

I thought he was left-handed.

"Are you hungry?" Tuhan asks me, closing the ballroom door behind him.

I turn away from him.

"I'll take that as a 'no'." He walks toward me and sits down. "Aren't you curious as to why I kidnapped you?"

"No. Not at all," I say.

"Alright. Alright." He raises his hands, and I get a better look at what's in his fists. It looks like a button.

"What's in your hands?" Most villains like to explain their evil plans.

"This?" He lifts his right hand up and shows the button to me.

I nod.

He smiles, and I get a full view of his yellowing teeth. "This is my revenge. I'm going to destroy what I've created."

I feel my eyes widen. Does he mean-? No... He can't...

"You wouldn't dare," I growl at him. I lean forward and bite the air.

"Ah, ah, ah," He sings as he waves the button around. "You're very feisty, Farrah. One wrong move, and I blow the entire place to Hell."

I shake my head. "Please don't," I whisper. My voice sounds horrible. I can hear it cracking.

Tuhan chuckles. "Why shouldn't I?"

"My- my son is there. You can't kill my son."

I'm just feeding his insanity.

His eyes light up, and he rocks back and forth. He shakes his hand. "Why shouldn't I kill him? He's only ever caused trouble for me." Tuhan giggles.

He's teetering on the edge.

"How about we play a little game? If you can take this out of my hand," he waves his right fist, "within three minutes, I won't blow up the lab."

I nod, and he reaches to untie me. My muscles stiffen, ready to fight.

The moment my limbs are free, I spring up from the chair and punch him. He blocks with his left hand and twists my fist.

His mouth pulls itself into a smile. "Good, good," he says, dodging my next hit.

Strategy, Farrah. Calm down and think of a strategy. Lure him into a false sense of security? Hide? No, that wouldn't work. The moon is so high that I can't hide in the shadows.

I run backwards, away from The director.

Throw him off a bit. Make him come to me.

He walks forward, in my direction.

I run at him. He tries to jump out of the way, I grab the chair and smash it over his head. He doesn't have enough time to react. The chair splinters, and I reach for his hand. Somehow, he manages to keep it away from me.

"Uh-oh, only a minute and a half left," he says, taunting me.

I hiss at him and lunge again. I'm getting reckless.

"Stop toying with me, asshole!" I yell at him. I'm so much weaker than I was before. I can't even fight a scientist. I swipe at his legs, but he jumps back.

"Isn't this a game?" He's insane. "Thirty seconds, Farrah."

No, no, no. I give up.

I run towards the door and fling it open.

Arron. I need to save Arron.

I fly down the hallway and jump down the stairs. I don't know where I am. I don't know how far away the lab is from this– mansion?

I slam open a door, it's not the exit.

Kitchen, dining hall, hallway.

How long has it been? Shit, I need to find the lab.

I open another door. Hot air hits me in a wave. I cough and leap down the steps two at a time.

Where am I? Can I save Arron in time? I don't know. I run straight ahead, looking for anything that I recognize.

Tears start to stream down my face. If I can't save my baby, how will I live?
