I settle down on the couch in front of our TV. On this day, 16 years ago, I was the lone survivor of a human experimentation lab. Every year, they make a broadcast talking about the hundreds of lives that were lost in that explosion. Honestly, I barely remember it. I was so young back then. Now, I can only remember comforting hands that lead me through emptiness. I'm told that I was found three days after the explosion, practically unharmed, hidden away in a glass case. The room was supposedly found next to two bodies, but they were so burnt that they were unidentifiable.

Most of the bodies were. Thank goodness.

"How are you doing?" My husband asks from behind me, as he leans on the back of the couch. I look over my shoulder at him and smile.

"I'm fine. We watch this every year," I say as a small chuckle escapes my lips. "I barely remember anything, anyway."

"I know, just checking," he says, leaning over to kiss my forehead.

We're still in college, and most people opposed our marriage, but I love him. I need some kind of refuge in my life. Especially because everyone's always worried about me. Saying this and that, pretending like they actually care.

"Come join me," I say, patting the couch beside me.

The news report shows some of the faces that were able to be identified, but I don't recognize any of them. Names with faces that don't matter to me. My husband hands me a cup of coffee even though it's the middle of the night.

"Thanks, love," I say, leaning on him.
"Anytime."

A face flashes up, a new one. One that looked familiar. The news reporter talks about how they were just able to identify this child a few days ago. His name was Arron.

What a curious name. I like it.

Next to him, is a kid with white hair.

My eyes drift closed and I dream that I'm in a field of flowers. There, the person who saved me is holding my hand, telling me that I'll be okay, and I know that I will be.
