The Chasseurs Alpins.

One of France's many elite troops, specialists of mountain and artic combat.

Originally the Bataillons de Chasseurs à Pied (BCP), created on the edict of the King of the French Louis-Phillipe to become a specific elite unit. With an alleged equipment much more functional than classic infantry and wearing darker uniform adapted for stealth and fast missions.

The BCP become an immediate success, as their number will continue to grow as the time pass.

The Bataillons de Chasseurs Alpins (BCA) will appear in 1888 as a response to the Italian unification, which create a new potential threat that could come from the Alps in the future. 12 of the 31 BCP are converted into BCA.

In the Middle Mountains of the continent, columns of soldiers were climbing their way toward the Dwarven Kingdom.

In this world, this unit share similar origins to their accomplice on Earth.

Soon after the purge of the nobility, Aether find himself with a disorganized army that suffered from budget cuts for the last 20 years. The creation of Chasseurs à Pied was the first attempt to modernize the French Imperial Army with a mobile light infantry.

Following the continuous reforms of the Imperial Armed Forces, Aether ordered to the Hexagon the creation of elite specialized units. Thus, the chasseurs Alpins were born as mountain specialists.

It's to be noted that the chasseurs Alpins are the only unit of the French Imperial Army that are organized into battalions rather than regiments.

After going through intense training during the past weeks, the unit was going to be deployed for the first time against a nation with a similar technological level as the French Empire.

Despite the uncertain balance of both sides and their numerical inferiority, the chasseurs Alpins had a very high morale and only asked to be sent on the hardest fronts.

Back on the mountains, the chasseurs Alpins encountered a group of their own cavaliers who came back toward them.

"2nd Reckon group reporting commander" The cavaliers saluted the commander of the battalion.

"Go ahead" The commander ordered.

"The designated target is only 700 meters away, the road is easily practicable but also directly in the sight of the fortress's defenses"
