"What the hell man? Were they trying to kill us or what?" Jamie says

"What the hell man? Were they trying to kill us or what?" Jamie says. I roll my eyes at him.

"Yes, that's why are here Jamie. I think two canons went off" I don't mention the possibility that it could be Tana and Jake. He breathes heavily trying to calm himself and I allow him.

"How are we going to get out of here?"

"Turn around and rest your back on the floor, then we both push with our legs" I notice how he moves from above me to my side. Supporting the cart with our legs, we pushed as hard as we could. After a big effort, the debris moves from the side where our heads were leaving a small gap through which a toddler could barely fit. Luckily, I manage to crawl through the hole. "Now I'll take you out, give me a minute" I catch my breath and decide to turn on the lantern so I could know where to step and how to get him out. The light initially blinds me but I adjust the intensity so that it that it couldn't be seen outside the tunnel.

"Did you have a flashlight this whole time?" Jamie asks incredulously.

"I didn't want to alert tributes or mutts so it's going off as soon as I get you out" he huffs at my words. He just like the others despised the darkness.

Analyzing the state of the tunnel, I can see that we narrowly escaped being completely crushed when the cart rolled to just under a main beam that prevented complete collapse. The path to the elevator, although bumpy, was still accessible however the path back to the section we came from was completely closed off. I untie myself from the rope that still joined us and take the other one from the sling bag, climbing the remains of the wall and passing one end of the rope through the eyelet of the beam above. Hoping that the counterweight was enough to lift the cart and the large boulder on top, I tied the remains of the wheels and lowered myself to ground level.

"I won't be able to keep this lifted for long so as soon as you can get out very quickly" I hear a faint yes from him and I began to pull the rope as hard as I could. Luckily he manages to get out just in time before my hands gave out.

"Let's get out of this fucking mine. I swear I don't know how my fathers does this all day" he says as he shakes the dust off his overalls. The light for the first time allows me to see his tired features and that he had a wound over his right eyebrow, he was a mess. I wonder if I will look the same, looking down at my injured hands from feeling rock walls and climbing, and I come to the conclusion that I probably looked just as messy was the only logical one. I untie the cart to retrieve the rope and get ready to turn off the light but Jamie tells me to stop. "You may have climbed and crawled over rocks thousands of times but I don't even know where to put my feet on this colapsed floor so I need the light"

"Okay but as soon as we reach the elevator we shut it off" he nods, I carry it since I would be going first. We climb over the fallen rocks and boulders excruciatingly slowly because we had to move rocks every few steps. The material in this section was still limestone and therefore fragile, but after a slow pace and a couple of hours we reached the elevator room. Although I try to turn off the light as quickly as I see that we had reached the room, I am too slow and something hits the ledge above my head.
