I clutched the ticket to my chest as I made my way out of the woods, watching more carefully where I was going this time. I started walking through town, trying to get to the mall before it got dark out. It was only six o'clock though so I had about an hour.
I knew that if I took some of the back ally ways that I would get there faster but it was crazy dangerous to be walking through those anytime past three in the afternoon. I lived in Downtown LA and it was filled with druggies and gangs that I didn't feel like taking a chance with. I eventually decided not to risk anything and just took the long way, making it to the mall by seven just as it started pouring rain.
Shoving the ticket safely in my back pocket, I made my way to Spencer's and spent the next hour there, managing to snag a bottle of electric blue dye without the cashier or any of the cameras or other customers spotting me. Don't even get me started on how difficult it was to land the two pairs of converse that I own.
I visited Hot Topic next and grabbed a few MIW and BVB bracelets, shoving them in my pocket. Too easy.
After that I just wandered aimlessly around the mall for the next couple of hours, going into random expensive looking jewelry stores and fancy looking dress shops. I found it hilarious when the managers tried to discreetly follow around the devil spawn emo kid who was for sure going to try to steal something. Yeah right, everything in those stores made me want to gag. I just got a kick out of how miserably they failed at making it seem like they weren't watching me.
Eventually I made myself comfortable in the food court, catching random conversations from other people around me. I listened to the thunder boom outside the building as a rare storm rolled in and started editing a picture of BVB on my phone. I'd always wanted to get into editing and graphic designs for band merch but I couldn't afford any professional editing soft wear, let alone a proper computer to do it on.
I must have fallen asleep right there at the table because I woke up a while later to a janitor tapping my shoulder. "Sorry miss, it's 1:25 am. The mall's closing in a few minutes," he said gently. I thanked him and quickly left the mall, patting my pockets to make sure I had my phone, earbuds, and... ticket. I franticly shoved my hand in my back pocket. The ticket wasn't there.
I rushed back inside to the food court and to the table I'd been sitting at and let out a breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding. The ticket lay on the floor under my chair. I was about to retrieve it when I saw the janitor from earlier sweep it up into his bucket.
"WAIT!" I screamed as he was about to dump it in the trash can. He froze and looked over to me with wide eyes. I ran up and said, "My concert ticket's in that bucket, I just saw you sweep it up."
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize what it was, I just assumed it was trash," he replied, reaching into the bucket and pulling out my ticket. He handed it to me and I almost cried with relief to have it back in my hands.
"Thank you so much," I said to him. He shook my hand and we said our goodbyes before I walked back out of the mall with my ticket now safely tucked in the back of my phone case. I saw that it had stopped pouring and there was now only a slight mist that hung in the air.
I made it home a half hour later and was relived to see that my dad's car wasn't in the drive way. I went upstairs and took off my usual thick eyeliner and mascara. I figured that I would re-dye the tips of my hair now as I wanted it to be vibrant for the concert.
Once I finished brushing the dye on I waited for around a half hour before hopping in the shower and washing out my hair. I finished quickly and stepped out. I dried off, threw on a Kiss shirt that was way to big and got into bed after setting my alarm for six am, not forgetting to plug my phone into it's charger. It would only give me two and a half hours of sleep but my dad usually got home at around seven am from the bar and I needed to get out of the house before he got home.
I fell asleep thinking about how damn lucky I was to find that ticket. I couldn't wait for Sunday.
Sorry again if this is boring but getting stories started is the hardest part for me. I promise it'll get interesting in the next chapter!
