The game ended with Bulgaria losing but Viktor Krum catching the snitch. All the way back to the tent we had to listen to Theos bragging and trash talk that our team had lost.
Once into our tent and away from Theos nonstop talking, we sighed in relief and looked around for our father who disappeared earlier without a trace. On the table we found a note telling us to use the portkey and head straight home.
Of course, me and Draco had our questions, but what our father says goes so we both grabbed our things and were home in less than five minutes. The next morning over breakfast we both got the truth of why we had to go home so fast.
Right after breakfast me and Draco traveled to the safety of my room and sat in silence before he finally spoke up. "You don't think..." his words tailed off along with his thoughts.
"Even if father was with them, we both know it is because he had no choice." My words were gentle but firm. "We need a plan for if he truly does come back."
Draco gravely nodded at my words and we both knew the world was changing and war would most likely be coming. Without another word we locked pinkies, as we have done since we were children, and made a silent pact.
Soon enough the day to go back to school had come and I rushed to get ready. I wore a mid-shin length, deep green skirt, courtesy of Lady Zabini. Along with a corset style top, with long off the shoulder sleeves, in white, that was tucked into my skirt. Black heels were worn on my feet, my hair done up in braids and twists I had done earlier that morning.
The only jewelry I wore was some diamond earrings and a dainty silver necklace Draco got me for my 14 birthday. My luggage had already been taken down earlier by a house elf.
Walking into the hallway I was met with Draco being in an all-black suit looking far too grown up making me frown slightly. "We are running late." Was the first thing he said to me all morning.
"Good morning to you as well brother." I said walking down the hall to the stairs. "Yes, sorry, good morning, we are running late."
I rolled my eyes and ignored him the rest of the way as we traveled in silence. Arriving in the kitchen we were set in a whirlwind of commotion, rushed to eat, floo to the train station, and say goodbyes.
As Draco was finishing his goodbyes with our parents, I looked around noticing some others dressed well, but barley any, most opting for sweats and hoodies. I saw Hermione with her hair down and frowned, wondering if anyone ever told the young witch about how disrespectful it was to mother magic and the old ways.
After we parted ways with our parents we quickly got on the train and separated, Draco looking for his friends and me looking for mine. I quickly found my best friend, Valaria Avery, my only close friend.
"Ember darling I've missed you terribly!" I was soon after smuggled in a hug by the tall dirty blonde and smiled widely. We both loved physical touch, and often expressed our selves through it.
"Val, how was your summer?" I asked pulling away and sitting down beside her. "Same old, traveling through Paris with my mother and dealing with my father's yelling. How was yours?"
Valaria came from another noble house like me and when we met first year we instantly clicked and haven't been seen apart in Hogwarts since. "It was good, peaceful, shopping here and there, and me and Draco got to go to the world cup."
Valaria wrinkled her nose at the sound of quidditch making me smile amused. She, like a true noble lady, found the sport too bloody for her taste. Just as she opened her mouth to comment the door opened revealing a scared Ravenclaws first year.
"Um s-sorry Valaria you are wanted in the prefect cabin." Valaria nodded sending a gentle smile to the small boy before standing up and straightening out her sleek white dress. "I will be back eventually."
I nodded and reached for a book to help distract me for the time being. I got about three pages in before my hair started to feel loose. With furrowed brows I reached my right hand back to feel my hair pin gone.
In surprise and fear I sat up quickly, scanning the cabin for the small silver and green stick. Once I realized I wasn't going to find it my heartbeat started to speed up. My other hair pins were packed away and all I had was a small ribbon tied to my wrist.
I tied it the best I could before coming to the realization I couldn't do this without a mirror, and since Valaria was off, I only had one choice left, Draco. With a sigh I grabbed my wand and started to briskly make my way to where I thought my brother would be.
I slide the door to his compartment open and four sets of eyes greeted me. "Hello" I spoke getting different responses from every boy.
"Little Ember!"
"Ember!"
Embs!"
"Em?"
I smiled at all of them before looking at Draco. "I need your help; I have a problem." As the words left my lips he was instantly on his feet. He nodded, signaling me to continue. "My hair pin, it's gone, all I have is a ribbon and I can't see well enough to tie it back myself."
Enzo, Theo, and Blaise were immediately in their feet exiting the small cabin to give us privacy, ever the gentlemen. I turned and let Draco start fixing my hair.
"I'm glad mother made sure to teach me to do hair." He said focusing in twisting some hair back after I let if loose. "Me as well Dray."
I took him around 10 minutes to fix my hair for me and once done he patted my shoulder gently. I turned around giving my brother a tight squeeze in thanks and opened the door to let the other three in.
They stood in front of the cabin acting as guards making me let out a small laugh. At the sound the spun around. "Thank you, boys, I appreciate it."
"Anything for you Ember" Enzo responded winking making me roll my eyes and Blaise to hit him in the back of the head. I nodded once towards Blaise in thanks. "Oh Blaise, do tell your mother thank you for her most recent presents from France, will you?"
"Of course, love, she always enjoys spoiling you."
"Well, I'll be off, let you boys get back to gossiping." Theo's smirk grew and so did my worry. "Oh, Ember don't you want to know what we were gossiping over?" My eyes narrowed and I slowly shook my head.
"It's nothing really just about a certain professional quidditch player." Picking at his nails to act uninterested, spoke up Enzo.
I spun around pointing a finger at Draco. "You" He smirked and shook his head, pointing at Theo, "Him." I glared at both of them. "Nothing happened." I stated crossing my arms as the boys walked past me into the compartment.
"Oh, but it did, your flushed face said it all." Theo giggled out. "I'm leaving." I spun down the hall and began walking away from them. "YOU CAN'T RUN FROM LOVE EMBER!" I heard Theo shout from behind me, making me shake my head.
He must have been dropped as a baby, because I know for a fact his father did better at raising him then shouting at the top of his lungs in a busy train. A small tsk left my lips, that boy was acting as if he was raised as a Weasley.
