The door to the tavern swung open, causing the few alcoholics who graced the place with their presence every night at midnight- who were sober enough still to keep ordering drinks, to glance over at the annoyed person who was giving the bartender a look from the entrance.
Toji scanned the congested room, searching for a certain blonde who interrupted his night spent with Lola. He finally recognized Avery glance at him at a booth closely placed by the bar area, waving him over.
He stormed over towards her, making his way through the crowd with loads of drunk people. Once Toji made it closer to Avery, she smiled a simple smile.
"What the fuck do you want?" He grumbled, taking a seat on the other side of the booth. He was pissed.
Avery shrugged before handing him a drink she ordered. Toji raised an eyebrow.
"It's a Monday night." He skeptically reminded her.
An hour ago, Avery had rang the boy's phone, pleading for him to meet her at the tavern, telling him not to tell Lola. He assumed it was urgent- the poor girl never asked him for anything. He hated lying to Lola, it felt like a knife twisting in his stomach each time. He was doomed.
"It's technically Tuesday now." Avery half-heartdly joked, taking a glance at their surroundings.
Toji couldn't help but roll his eyes. He didn't feel like joking around right now, yet of course the girl in front of him always did.
He sighed, leaning against the dark oak table, clasping his hands together. The weight of his arms made the table creak slightly.
"Can we hurry this up? I'm trying to go to bed." He whined, causing Avery to tilt her head to the side.
Her expression turned serious as she began to whisper, only to be interrupted but the figure making its way towards the table.
"Quit your whining," Nanami piped in, glaring at the boy. Avery scooted to make room for the man as he quietly thanked her, taking the empty spot next to her. "You're pathetic Toji."
Toji turned to Avery, "Can someone just tell me what was so important I had to come here?"
Nanami and Avery shared a glance with each other, before he nodded his head for her to continue. She closed her eyes for a split second, turning her attention to Toji with a smile on her face.
"You'll be pleased to know that Levi is back." Avery plastered a reassuring smile on her face, scanning for any reaction out of the black haired man.
Toji felt his blood run cold. A pang of hurt clutched at his chest as the reality of the situation had just dawned upon him. He couldn't be mad though, he knew it was coming- just not so soon.
"And I care because?" It took every bone in his body for his voice to not break as his heart was, slowly but surely. Toji raised an eyebrow at the two. Avery looked confused at his reaction, she had known him for his whole life- she was sure he was wanting to know.
Nanami brought his arms to his chest, folding them as he stared at Toji, like he was reading straight through his bullshit. Nanami scoffed.
"Cut the bullshit Toji," His voice was cold and smooth.
Toji just glanced around the room, shaking his head with a manic smile on his face.
"If Lola wants to take him back, then that's her choice." Toji spat out lies.
Lies, lies, and more lies.
He was prepared to tell as many lies to any of their faces. The more he lied and showed he didn't care, the faster he would believe the lies himself. A plan that would do more damage than good later on.
