"Why did you do that?" The little boy asked, tilting his head to the side.
Lola blinked in confusion, seeing the eight year old boy standing in front of her. She felt her heart racing as she fully turned around, taking in her surroundings.
No. No. No. It can't be.
Her breathing became heavier as she quickly recongized the familiar place she was in. She was back inside the cell. It was exactly how she remembered it: cold, dark and isolating. Lola frantically faced the boy who she swore she kill. Tears of defeat and guilt prick at the corner of her eyes.
He looked the same from before she plunged a knife into his neck. He was still alive, standing in front of her. His expression was mild, staring at her with no emotions- only a frown curled onto his lips. Saltiness trickled down Lola's cheeks.
"What do you mean?" Lola answered back. Her mind was racing.
Rubbing a hand over her face, She quickly swiped at the drying tears on her cheeks; she was desperate to get a grip on her emotions. Was this her brain playing tricks on her? No, it couldn't be, this was real. Mason's face scrunched up in discomfort and confusion.
"You killed me," His voice was barely above a whisper. With each word he said, his voice cracked more. "You killed me."
Lola felt her lip quiver as she had to suppress a sob from escaping her lips. She couldn't handle confrontation and the shame she felt kept eating her alive. She was beginning to grow frustrated with herself. She hated being the kind of person who cried even at her own mistakes. She felt weak.
Through blurry tears, Lola brought her gaze back up towards the boy she didn't hesitate to kill. He had an innocent aura surrounding him, to young to have deserved any of this. Maybe she could've figured out something to save the boy and her mother at the same time. Those what if's would be the death of her.
Feeling a cold metal against her palm, she stared down at her hands to see the familiar red-stained blade that she used to kill the boy with. Looking down at her lap, her eyes widened as Mason was laying there, in the same position as he did when he drew his last breath. The wounds expanding as he continued to bleed out, choking on his own blood.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry..." She choked on her own sobs, damping the boy's cheeks as her tears fell onto his lifeless body. "Please forgive me. I never meant for any of this."
"What did you just do?" Lola swiftly turned her head over her shoulder.
Her face fell as she recognized Toji standing behind her at the door. A horrified look plastered on his face at the sight. Lola shook her head, sobbing uncontrollably. Toji slowly made his way closer towards the dark haired girl, who held Mason's body tightly to her chest.
"I... I had no choice," Her voice broke. The color from her face drained from her face like the life being sucked out of ghost.
Toji stared in disbelief at the brunette girl, who couldn't get a grip on her emotions. His next move surprised Lola. He gripped her by the neck tightly, forcefully pushing her into the cement wall behind her. The impact made her wince in pain, hearing a crack in her back.
She couldn't breathe, not with the deathly grip he had on her throat, blocking her airways. Lola started clawing at him, thrashing around to catch her breath. Tears painfully formed, stinging her red, swollen eyes.
"You're a murderer." Toji spat, forcing Lola to tear her gaze away from him.
Please stop. She mumbled to herself, hearing the voices in her head.
