"What if it turns out better than you could have imagined?"
2 Months later....
As the night envelops the world into a deep silence, Fee leaned against the metal railing on the balcony, her thoughts wandering through the labyrinth of memories. It seemed to be a recurring moment every night, when there was nothing to do and the house was still as if it had never been touched, Fee couldn't help but drench in long thoughts and how things could've been.
The soft glow of moonlight cast shadows that danced around her silhouette, echoing the complexities of her emotions. With a gentle sigh, Fee grew to find solace in the stillness of the night. Each twinkling star above seemed to offer a silent reassurance, guiding her through the maze of her reflections as she navigated the tapestry of her thoughts.
A few days after the incident, the police quickly investigated the murder of Gojo and Avery's father. It was suspected he drowned himself on the last day of December, as the siblings placed evidence there. The local authorities dragged through the freezing water for days and miles, and his body was never to be found.
And life went on, it wasn't the same, but it went on.
Warm arms wrapped around her waist from behind, startling Fee as she quickly turned around. Gojo let out a tired chuckle, pressing his lips to her forehead lazily with half-lidded eyes. His hair was ruffled and all over the place from his sleeping.
"I woke up and you were gone," His voice was raspy and low, as he pulled away slowly, raising his finger to tilt her chin up towards him. His eyes were filled with concern and love.
Fee smiled softly and shook her head, not wanting to worry the blonde-haired man. Gojo raised an eyebrow at her silence. His lips parted to speak before the brunette girl cut him off.
"I couldn't sleep so I stepped out to get some fresh air... Did I wake you?" Fee gently spoke, frowning slightly at the mere thought of her being the reason he woke up.
The moonlight cast onto him, giving her a clear gaze at the man with the natural light seeping through the night. A small falter in his tired smile gleamed through the darkness, bringing his hand to gently caress the girl's cheek with his soft touch, which brought warmth to her.
Gojo shook his head slightly, "You didn't wake me, darling." He whispered, giving her a small reassuring smile that quickly faded as it came.
"Is everything okay?" He gently added, staring at her with a gentle and calming gaze, waiting patiently for her to answer.
Fee had never wanted to burden the man with her racing thoughts, but his voice was so affirming and gentle that her trust in him grew tremendously. Fee gave him a small and sad smile, glancing out into the silent night where everything was untouched on the streets.
"Ever since my mother died, the police closed the case pretty fast. It was labeled as a suicide," Fee softly answered, unable to look up at Gojo. "I wanted answers, and all this time, I had been trying to find them...
"But now that the truth is out and the man is dead, I can't wrap my head around how quickly it is all over. I just don't know how to get over that the way all of you did." She finished, glancing back up at Gojo, whose eyes flashed with a hint of sadness and guilt.
Gojo grabbed her hand in his, rubbing soft circles along the backside, glancing down at their intertwined hands. Silence fell upon the two as if Gojo was trying to figure out what to say in comfort. He swallowed a lump in his throat before lowly clearing his throat.
