Both their arms got destroyed by a fighters who wields sword (Vi lost her arm's Gauntlet to Sevika and Yang got her arm impaled by Adam Taurus) in which resulted on them learning humiliation and manage their hotheaded temper. They had a rematch to the said opponents and they ultimately won
Both have a black haired female partner (Caitlyn and Blake Belladonna respectively) who have wealthy background and they're also a great fighter and are heavily implied to be a love interest. The only difference is that Yang and Blake officially became a couple in Volume 9
Both also possess similar powers that are spiritual in components (Hextech being spirit magic and Auras are the life force in the series). Both can create passive shields (Blast Shield and Yang's Aura) and the ability to get stronger and faster the more they take damage (Denting Blows and Semblance, Burn respectively)
Both have fathers that are huge influence in their life (Vander and Taiyang Xiao Long respectively) and mentored them to become a better fighter and a leading model for their group. They are also daughters of powerful figures in the underworld (Vander is a prominent figure in the undercity, Zaun and Yang is the daughter of Raven Branwen who leads a band of mercenaries and is the Spring Maiden)
Their individual stories also center around redemption and reconnecting with lost loved ones. (Vi got into conflict with Jinx after realizing that her little sister had basically turned into an insane terrorist, and she had to balance this with Caitlyn's need to find the gemstone, whereas Yang ends up in conflict with Blake when they meet again because of how Blake ran away from the team after the Fall of Beacon, and Ruby basically dipping to leave Yang alone)
Both also have a teammate who is a rich heir to one of the most widespread companies of their respective home cities (Jayce of House Talos and Weiss Schnee of the Schnee Dust Company respectively) and who uses a weapon that is straightforward in design but is as versatile as a swiss army knife in application (Hextech Hammer and Dust Rapier respectively)
