Mattie walked outside the room where her daughters were for tonight. She cried silently as she realized she couldn't manipulate her daughters anymore. It was odd for Mattie. She was sad that her daughters didn't trust her, but she was glad because she would betray them because of her fear of her husband.

Elbert: what did they say? He grabs Mattie's arm to turn her around to remove the wire he placed on her back.

Mattie shook her head and said, "They don't trust us, Elbert. Karen asked if I was wired, and they asked me to leave; they didn't say anything incriminating about Alex."

Elbert: I should've gone in there with you. You act just as weak-minded as them sometimes. They are planning something. Chance will be here within an hour, and I'll find out what happened to Alex then.

Mattie: I tried, but they hate us. I don't think they meant to hurt Alex, but I don think they had something to do with it.

Elbert: you always pitied them; that's why they're tender. They did something; they made up a plan. Now, watch the rest of the husbands fall dead, just like Dorinda's husband. I'm not allowing that. We need there husbands' money and influence to sustain our lives.

Mattie: Did you hear me, Elbert? They hate us. They won't tell us anything, and you think Chance knows anything. If they did devise a plan, he wouldn't be a part of it. Our daughters hate their husbands and us. Jackie and Denise are pregnant; we probably don't deserve to be grandparents.

Elbert: We will be grandparents because there are Clarks. Stop being meek. We demand answers, not ask. Alex's father is asking questions about his death. I don't want them harming my Clark legacy. I worked too hard for this type of money for those bitches that I didn't even want to ruin it.

Chance walked into the room, blood on his shirt, and looked at Elbert and Mattie. "What do you want?"

Mattie: Umm, there's blood on your shirt. Is that Karen's? She asked because she was afraid for her daughter.

Chance: If you didn't know, my wife is in Twinkies' room with her sisters. She doesn't get hit if she behaves like you, Mattie. Like I said, what do you want? I'm not done with Jaxon downstairs. He passed out. I have thirty minutes to talk before he wakes up, and then it's time to have fun again. It's never fun when they are unconscious.

Elbert: what? Why are you constantly beating on my daughter's husband?

Chance: Relax. Jaxon is just learning a lesson called Do as I say. Alex tried to take what was mine, so I killed him.

Elbert: you mean Karen?

Chance: I walked in, and he was on top of her; after I made my appearance known, he tried to blame everything on the holy boy, and I know from that last lesson I gave Karen she would never talk to dude again. So, I killed him.

Elbert: His Father is threatening to hurt my legacy because of it

Chance: tragic as long as they don't touch what's mine. I couldn't care less what he does. Tell him the story I said and ask if he wants the Hemmingways on his head.

Elbert: my girls are plotting against you-

Mattie: Elbert, no, we don't know that-

Elbert: shut up, Mattie. I think they are planning for you to kill their husbands because of your temper and power. Karen is playing you.

Chance: Nah, Alex was trying to get what's mine. Chance got up towards Elbert's face. "I respect you because of your work with my father, but you will not question me again. Thirty minutes up. Jaxon is up now". He walked out of the room.

Mattie: you would do that to our daughters.

Elbert got up, raised his hand, and slapped Mattie across the face. As she flew back, he said, "I will do anything to protect my legacy."

Mattie: down on the floor, holding her face. " Even if that means hurting your legacy."

Elbert: This is why our daughters disobey you. You don't listen and do as I say; he would never kill any of our daughters, hurt them, maybe take a limb off, but not kill them. They are too valuable to him. I must maintain order and balance, and none of our children will ruin my work, not even you. DO YOU GOT THAT?" walking towards her with authority.

Mattie: Yes, I'm sorry. Please don't hit me. I don't want our children to be hurt because you jumped to conclusions.

Elbert looked at Mattie with disgust. You don't get it; if we don't stop them, they will kill us next. We must keep them in line, or my life is at stake. They hate me the most, and if I find out you are apart, you won't live to be a grandmother. I love you, but not as much as money, fame, and power.
