THERE WAS THIS SILENCE between Leonard and Evelyn. It wasn't uncomfortable or awkward nor was it peaceful. Evelyn could sense his emotions which made it difficult for him to lie about his feelings. The only thing he hated that came with her newfound metahuman capabilities was her ability to know exactly how he was feeling.
As he fixed his coat in the fabrication room, Evelyn felt this weight on her shoulders that wasn't hers. She studied him closely as he put a gun in a holster that was covered by his coat. He was scared and anxious, and she knew it wasn't about the mission but about their daughter.
"We have to talk about her eventually," reminded Evelyn, "we can't keep ignoring the situation...and her."
Leonard sighed.
"I can't do this right now," he told her.
"If not now then when?" She asked him a bit frustratedly. She tried to be patient with him, and give him space and time to process. But by doing so, he now tried to avoid the situation altogether.
Leonard glanced at Evelyn with look of annoyance. She matched his expression as she leaned against the fabricator with crossed arms.
"We'll talk after the mission," he replied. "Fair?"
Evelyn sighed then nodded.
"Be nice to her," she told him. Leonard never broke eye contact as she glanced down at her boots.
"She's our daughter," she said happily and a smile appeared on her face. Her eyes slowly looked up at Leo whom for the first time looked happy with circumstance. While he didn't smile, his eyes brightened at the idea that two of them started a family of their own one day.
Unbeknownst to them, Lana stood outside the door. She smiled to herself at the sound of bliss in her mom's tone. She exhaled a deep breath then entered the fabrication room. She was dressed in a red dress with her hair pulled into a ponytail. A few loose strands fell upon her face. Her lips a shade darker than her dress. Leonard and Evelyn immediately looked at her the moment she stepped foot inside the small room. When she felt their eyes on her, she grew intimidated. She didn't know how they'd react to her presence.
"Sorry," she told them, "I need a coat. It's cold outside, and well," she motioned to her attire.
Leonard and Evelyn take a step back to give her space. Lana walked over to the fabricator and made a coat to fit her petite frame. She shrugged the coat on well aware of the eyes still on her.
