round

one thing's sure and nothing's surer
not that the world's round, but that
the rich get richer & the poor get poorer.

the earth is governed by laws of nature,
yet, look! I can pull a rabbit out of my hat.
one thing's sure and nothing's surer.

i'll see myself if i look in a mirror
and the sun'll rise tomorrow, thereat
the rich get richer & the poor get poorer.

who will be the new fuhrer
to trample his people: splat!
one thing's sure and nothing's surer.

please, tell me, sage juror,
does this world have any sense? no chitchat!
the rich get richer & the poor get poorer.

hold my hand, though it is the abjurer
it don't matter. though the world may be flat,
one thing's sure and nothing's surer
the rich get richer & the poor get poorer.

definitions:
abjure- solemnly renounce (a belief, cause, or claim).
führer- ("Leader") title used by Adolf Hitler to define his role of absolute authority in Germany's Third Reich (1933–45).

inspiration:
the song above is an old 1920s song featured, or rather parodied, in chapter V of the Great Gatsby. klipspringer, the 'boarder' at Gatsby's mansion, plays a piano song for him, daisy, and nick, but is rather out of practice—so he either purposefully or unintentionally messes up the lyrics;

"One thing's sure and nothing's surer
The rich get richer and the poor get – children." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

also, in Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins, there is a little song Alobar makes up to pass the time as he travels (after he discovers that the earth is round).

"I love the ground-o, ground-o
A ball beneath my feet
The world is round-o, round-o
Just like a frigging beet."
