spring

verdant lawns and tall trees with chirping birds
the leaves are as numerous as the stars
all shades and hues of green
but the few unfortunate withered from drought

lazy drone of lawnmowers and neighbors
the endless blades of grass erect
this tall, lush leaf is cut
its pungent earthy cries warn the horde

leaves and blades now sharp and bright
are later cut and dried without strife
so hear my plea;
drink in this season of innocence and beauty
before the weather becomes vexed and bitter,
for your throat shall close up, then
it will be months before you may indulge again.
