The italics mean singing.
Tonight was English night at the pub, weird right? But it was a thing that this little pub in Barcelona did once every few months. They would get in all English speaking bands and have them play for everyone. It was a time where people who spoke mainly English could come and feel a sense of home. Keira and Lucy loved it. They always talked about it. Alexia and Mapi would laugh at them, each and every time they went, but they just rolled their eyes and said we should all join. Which we never did, until now. Tonight Lucy and Keira convinced Ingrid, Alexia, Mapi, Aitana and I to come.
We were sitting at a round table, drinks filling it. Everyone was chatting away, and only spoke in English. It gives us a good place to learn more English, which is cool.
I turn and look toward the stage, waiting for the next band to appear. Three girls, all who look very similar, ginger hair, fair skin, freckles covering their face and arms. Their faces had similar features, but one was by far more beautiful than the others. She was the one with the guitar. While one had a small piano and the other stood at the front with the main microphone stand. The host informs us that these sisters were up next, calling themselves the three Scottish sisters. Cute. Kally was the main singer, Sophia on the piano and y/n on the guitar.
Y/n
What a lovely name.
"Well hello everyone, this is our first time at the English night event here in Barcelona." The main girl, Kally says into the speaker.
This causes the crowd to cheer and whistle for them. I look over to see my friends laughing too and Lucy cheering loudly.
"Y/n." The main girl says, turning to her. "Lives here in Barcelona, and told us it was time for Sophie and I to experience what Spain has to offer and have a little fun on the English night here. So obviously, we couldn't say no. Sophie and I even dragged our boyfriends out here, and if you know Scotsmen, you know they are massive homebodies."
Everyone is now laughing, and Sophie and Kally both blow their partners a kiss. This causes the crowd to cheer even louder. I look over at Alexia to see her laughing like crazy, wiping the tear from her eye.
"What about y/n?" One dude shouts over everyone.
"Yeah, is she single?" Another asks.
This causes y/n to smile and laugh to herself, while Sophie shakes her head and grabs her Mic in-front of her.
"Sorry Folks, she's for the girls."
Now all the women are cheering, including me and my friends, since we are all so gay.
Y/n laughs again and blushes.
"Why thank you ladies." She says, not being able to contain her smile. "Now should we get on with the song?"They informed us that The song was one that y/n had wrote. This made me even more intrigued.
"Black hole opened in the kitchen
Every clock's a different time
It would only take the energy to fix it
I don't know why I am" Kally sings.
Fuck she's actually very good."The way I am, not strong enough to be your man
I try, I can't stop staring at the ceiling fan and
Spinning out about things that haven't happened
Breathing in and out" They all sing, each singing in a different octave. My draw is dropped, they are amazing. I look over to see all my friends also in shock.
"Drag racing through the canyon
Singing "Boys Don't Cry"
Do you see us getting scraped up off the pavement?
I don't know why I am" Sophie sings."The way I am, not strong enough to be your man
I try, I can't stop staring at the ceiling fan and
Spinning out about things that haven't happened
Breathing in and out"They all then stop singing, Sophie stopping playing piano and leaving y/n to do a solo on the guitar. Damn she's brilliant.
After a little bit she starts to sing again, and the pain and true feelings of frustration, anger and sadness are shining through her voice.
Always an angel, never a god
Always an angel, never a god
Always an angel, never a godAlways an angel, never a god
Always an angel, never a god
Always an angel, never a god
Always an angel, never a godThe others join in and it sounds like heaven.
Always an angel, never a god
Always an angel, never a god
Always an angel, never a god
Always an angel, never a god
Always an angel, never a god"I don't know why I am the way I am" y/n sings, her voice high and loud. It's the best out of all three of them, and literally brings tears to my eyes. The way she sings is so powerful.
"There's something in the static, I think I've been having revelations
Comin' to, in the front seat, nearly empty
Skip the exit to our old street and go home
Go home alone" they all finish and bow.Everyone is now cheering and screaming at them. My friends and I are off our seats, standing. The whole pub believes just as much as us that they were truly amazing.
"Thank you everyone. Have a good night." They all say at the same time, before heading over to grab a drink.
"They were incredible." Keira says, turning back to the table.
"How have they not gone professional yet?" Aitana adds.We continue talking for a little bit, before Jana looks up and her eyes widen. She's staring at something over my shoulder. My brows scrunch together and I turn behind me.
"Y/n..." I breath.
She's standing there, smiling at me.
"Hi, I was wondering if I could buy you a drink?" She asks, straight up.
This causes my friend to howl and smack my back. I laugh and blush slightly.
"I'd love a drink." I say back.
This causes her to smile more and take my hand before pulling me over to the bar.She takes a seat on a stool, and gestures for me to sit down next to her. She orders two vodka cokes before turning to me.
"So, did you like the performance?" She ask, before taking a sip of her drink.
I smile and nod.
"Very much. It was amazing, you all sing very well."
At this she blushes and smiles down at the floor.
"Thank you."
I lick my lips before taking a sip of my drink, damn this is actually very good, can't believe I've never had it.
"So, why invite me for a drink?" I ask.
This causes her to look up at me confused, like she thought I knew what she wanted from me.
"Well, I saw you cheering for me about being gay, so I thought that meant that you were into girls. And you're very beautiful, so I thought I'd shoot my shot. Sorry if I got the wrong idea." She says quickly, her eyes moving around, like she's nervous.
I smile and take her hand in mine.
"I'm also "for the girls". And I also think you are very beautiful." I say, trying not to sound nervous. After some more talking with y/n, I ask for her number and we agree to meet up next weekend. It didn't take long before I asked her to be my girlfriend. Nor did it take long for her to get her name out into the world, take off from her sisters and become a professional singer. And next thing I knew, I was in Scotland with her for a walk in the highlands, just a bit away from her childhood home, where I asked her to marry me. Tears welling in her eyes she jumped onto me, saying "yes" over and over again.
And now here we are, back in Scotland, getting married next to a massive castle on a cliff. It was the place she had always dreamed about getting married, and I wanted nothing more than to give that dream to her. All my teammates there, Jana as my maid of honour. It couldn't be more perfect. And all because Lucy and Keira forced me to come out to "English night" at a random pub in Barcelona.
