chapter sixteen

I was happy cause I got pole position today here in Austria. But as soon as i stepped back into the garage all the joy was gone as I saw Sebastian hugging Antonia from behind and giving her a kiss on the cheek.

She even leaned into it and smiled and a sharp pain went through my stomach. One race had been between Spain and now and luckily he wasn't there. But Antonia didn't really came to me or anything and kept her distance what got me even more worried.

"Carlo, you are the number one!" a kids voice could be heard and I looked up.

Luca jumped over the barrier and ran over to me, to disfavor of his father, who wanted to hold him back. But the little boy beamed happily and stretched his arms out, so I picked him up and set him on my hip.

"It was only qualifying honey, the race is tomorrow." Antonia said as she stepped closer to us and brushed some hair out of Luca's face.

Then her look fell on me, my lips that were on the same height as Luca's face, but she quickly looked up and a little smile appeared on her face.

"Good job out there." she winked at me before turning around again.

"Luca!" Sebastian yelled over the garage and the boy on my arm just rolled his eyes before jumping off and running to his father.

In thoughts I looked after them but then my engineer said something and I turned towards him to discuss the sessions. It all took a while so I was glad as I was back at the hotel. Quickly I took a shower and then laid on my bed as I wanted to relax the next hours before I had to sleep.

After some time there suddenly was a knock on my hotel door and I got up to open it.

"Antonia." was all that left my mouth as I was too surprised seeing her here, with Luca on her hand.

She was wearing a blue dress and looked once again more than beautiful but then I looked at her face again and saw how she bit her lower lip.

"Can... Can you maybe watch Luca for a couple of hours? Sebastian and I are going out for dinner and he booked a table for two so we need a babysitter." she looked at me, uncomfortable, not sure what I would think of this.

"Why me?" I asked curious and maybe a bit of defiance swung with my voice as she had kept her distance for the last races, after everything that had happened in Baku.

"I promised Sebastian I would bring Luca to Ricky but I think he has more fun with you, he likes you."

"I do." the little boy said and proudly put his hands on his hips.

A giggle left me and I smiled at Luca before looking back into Antonia's ice blue eyes. Who could say no to such a woman, I couldn't and Luca was the nicest little human on earth so of course I would help her out.

Even though it hurt, knowing that she was on a date with her ex while I was watching their kid, but that had to wait, now I was going to have fun with Luca.

"Sure, I'll do it. The cars are in my bag." I said after Luca as he was running past me into my room.

"Thanks Carlos, you're the best." Antonia returned and quickly gave me a kiss on the cheek while hugging me.
