Battle and Death

Akima's POV

I am dressed in all black and Aries did my war paint. I did his. Mimi did my hair for me. Today we fight for our home. Colonel Quaritch is planning an all out attack on the Tree of Souls and we have to stop him. We have everything planned out and I pray Ewya will send us help. Because I doubt we can win this battle alone. But I can't show fear or weakness in front of the pack. I'm the alpha and it's our job to protect the people & their land.

"Are you ready?" Aries asks me. I nod my head. "We will be ok" he assures me.

"You are still recovering, you should stay here to help protect the women and children" I tell him.

"Do you not remember what we promised each other?" he asks me. "Wherever you go, I go. You ride, I ride. You fight, I fight" he states. "I love you Akima" he says in English.

"I love you, just please stay close" I plead. He nods and we share a kiss. We join our pride and go get into position with the rest of the ground team. We shift and lay in wait.

(Time skip)

We hear them, before we see them. 'Remember, stay with your partner. Protect the people' I tell the pride.

'Yes, alpha' they respond. The battle begins. The pride and I lay in way circling behind the sky people while they are distracted by the na'vi and direhouse.

'Pride, attack!' I roar and jump onto the first soldier. He screams and I toss him into the air. Aries catches him and snaps his neck. We work together, watching each others backs as the fight continues. I notice the pride doing the same.

But we are losing numbers quickly. Because of the sky people weapons. We had to fall back. We are being over run. 'Protect the people!' Aries roars. The pride agree.

"Jake! Jake! We're falling back!" I hear Norm shout.

"Copy that, get out of there" I hear Jake say over the radio. Suddenly the jungle explodes around us. The jungle is set on fire.

'Get to water, protect the people!' I roar with Aries. The pride confirm and we continue to run. I come across Norm's avatar and curse. Lars appears with Taha-aki. 'Get Norm's avatar to safety' I tell them. They nods and Taha-aki gets Norm onto Lars back. They leave.

I go to follow, but stop when I see a look of horror on Aries face. 'What is it?' I ask him.

'It is my brother, he is hurt badly' he states. 'I can feel him' he tells me. I take a deep breath and focus on the forest. I feel Loki running towards the shack with someone riding him.

'Go to him' I tell him.

'I cannot leave you' he tells me.

'Your brother needs you and I must find Neytiri. I feel like she is in danger' I tell him. 'We will meet again' I assure him as I nuzzle him.

'Take care of yourself and our baby' he tells me firmly.

'You make sure you come back to us' I tell him. He nods and licks my cheek. Before taking off. I watch him go before taking off towards the where I feel Loki. As I run I feel him fighting something and run faster.

As I near I hear his roar of pain. I snarl and leap out of the trees. Tackling the amp-suit away from him. As he lays on top of Neytiri struggling to stay away with multiple stab wounds. I snarl and stand in front of them protectively. "Come on" Quaritch says and I growl. As I crouch down.

"It's all over Quaritch!" Jake shouts as he appears at my side.

"Nothing's over while I'm breathing" Quaritch tells him.

"Kinda hoped you'd say that" Jake tells him. They start to fight each other. I turn to Loki and Neytiri. Loki is barely alive, Neytiri's leg pinned under him.

'Loki' I say softly and nudge him.

'I tried to help, guess I was not strong enough' he tells me.

'You did wonderfully' I assure him.

'Please, it hurts. Make it stop' he pleads. I cry and rest my forehead on his. As I hear glass break.

'Be are peace brother and may your spirit run free with Eywa' I tell him. I then bite into his neck, ending his suffering. I then start to pull him off Neytiri as she pushes, trying to get free. As I hear Jake yell in pain.

Neytiri finally frees her leg and grabs her father's bow. Which he gave her. She notches an arrow and arms letting it fly. He hits Quaritch in his chest. He lets go of Jake's queue. I snarl as Neytiri fires again. Quaritch dies and we run over to Jake. But he doesn't wake.

I then notice the shack window broken. I curse and rush over. Neytiri follows and jumps inside. She crouches over Jake's human body. I shift. "The mask, put it on him" I tell her. She grabs it and put it on him. I shift again. As Jake wakes breathing deeply.

'Akima, we need you and the other two!' Aries calls.

'We will be there shortly' I tell him. I chaff and the other two look at me. I nod towards the forest.

"We need to go my Jake" Neytiri tells him. He nods and she helps him into the link pod. With his exo-mask on. He links back to his avatar. I lay down and he grabs his queue. I snarl. "Jake, no bond" Neytiri tells him.

"Why?" he asks confused.

"Just hold on" she tells him. "We will explain later" she states. They both get on and hold on. I take off through the forest. We reach Tsu'tey and Aries in no time. Jake kneels beside Tsu'tey as I nuzzle Aries chaffing.

"I see you, Jakesully" Tsu'tey says in Na'vi. Jake repeats the greeting in Na'vi. "Are the people safe?" he asks.

"They are safe" Jake assures him. Tsu'tey weakly clutches his severed queue. I gasp in shock. I then bury my head into Aries shoulder, crying.

"I can never ride again, or bond with my woman or hear the voice of Eywa. I can not lead the People. You will lead them, Jakesully" Tsu'tey say in English.

"No. I'm not officer material" Jake tells him.

"It is decided. Now do the duty of Olo'eyctan. Set my spirit free" Tsu'tey says offering Jake his knife. Aries bows his head in sadness. I nuzzle him.

"I'm not killing you" Jake tells him.

"I am already dead" Tsu'tey tells him. "It is the way. And it is good. I will be remembered. I fought with Toruk Macto, we were brothers and he was my last shadow" he states. Jake leans forward, blocking the sun. His shadow falls across Tsu'tey.

"Forgive me, my Brother. Go now to the Mother Spirit" Jake says in Na'vi. By his movement, we know that he has ended Tsu'tey's pain. Jake's eyes well with tears as he continues reciting the prayer for the dead, and his Na'vi words fill the now quiet forest.

Yes, we had won the battle. But we had lost many lives. Friends and family. I am grateful I still have Aries and our baby. But what of our pride? Are they ok? How many Na'vi died today? I guess we'll find out once we return to the Well of Souls.
