I managed to win the auction with ease. I was always the highest bidder at art auctions hosted in Berlint. The fact that I disguised myself as 'Lady Annabeth' made it easier for me. I felt more confident, more free knowing that this place was somewhere where nobody knew anything about me. The real me.
At least that's how it should have been, so why on earth did Damian Desmond have to come out of nowhere? He'd never shown any interest in bidding for a painting. Well, of course, this wasn't just 'a painting', this was the most sought after art piece in Ostania: The woman who is barefoot.
The painting depicted a strong sense of melancholy, anguish and anger felt during war in the form of a beautiful young woman with chestnut curls falling to her shoulders, crying on barren land. She didn't have any shoes and she watched as her surroundings were engulfed by flames. Of course, the other reason I had to do this was because the bidder's money would go to charity.
I liked collecting paintings and I wanted to do something for children left as orphans, like I was. This was the best way to do both. Satisfaction of doing a good deed and happiness and fulfilment from however, was the last thing on my mind.
Anya Forger... Please tell me that's you...
I couldn't help but let those words seep into my brain, his echoing thoughts, his assumptions and his intuition I'd let it all seep into my brain. His intuition, his thoughts, those were the things that made him decide that he'd go to an auction. Those were the things about him that made him know that Lady Annabeth was none other than me. Those were the things I'd always admire about Damian Desmond, that it was never easy to deceive him.
Oh, but I did deceive him. I deceived them all.
A deep voice rose from behind, I immediately flinched at the sound of it. I don't look back and walk straight ahead, I know who that is. The voice kept calling out to me, I walked faster, improving my pace, faster and faster until I was actually sprinting.
I'll never forgive them, ever... I thought to myself as I ran, not once considering to look back and meet him in the eyes. I refused to.

"I knew you'd win the art piece!-" Becky happily exclaimed on the telephone. It nearly hopped out of my hand, her voice was that loud. "Uhuh-I'm the best, best not forget that!" I grinned awkwardly. I could almost imagine her rolling her eyes at my comment.
"No... but... seriously... Damian Desmond came to the auction?!" She could hardly contain her excitement, "Oh Anya! How romantic would it be if he finds out who's behind that mask?~" her muffled voice shrieks. I love Becky, but for one, she is delusional and two, her screeching will make me lose my hearing one day.
"Oh! Did he recognise you? Did you go towards him? Did you talk to him? Oh. My. God! Like just imagine nonchalantly walking up to him and saying: 'Hey Damian, do you recognise me? It's your flame from school AnYa ForGuh' 'Oh my god! AnYa-' (And he says it all teary eyed as you hold hands and gaze into each other's eyes~) 'Let's get married and have babies~ I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S YOU-' (And then you guys'll kiss under the moonlight and have Desmond Juniors), Oh just how amazing would it be-" I interrupt her delusional rambling by clearing my throat, she falls silent. I eventually find my voice after seconds of silence.
"First of all, Becky, life isn't a rom-com-"
"But it could be-" she jabbed on"--and it could also lead to having babie-"
"Second of all, I am never going to reveal my true identity-" (Although I knew he had his suspicions) "Oh Anya, Just think of the possibilities, you need to let loose sweetie-"
"Third of all, no... adult conversation would be that inappropriate!" I hissed, feeling a wave of heat rush over me as I imagine how stupid that whole conversation would sound, if executed.
"I'm not saying you'll start talking directly about babies, that was just me summarising your whole conversation-" "OKAY-Enough with the babies PLEASE-!" I blushed.
"Okay, okay-sorry" Her voice sounds sheepish, "Maybe I over exaggerated this whole hypothetical situation a little but-" "A little Beckalyn Elise Blackbell...? A little?-"
"I'm sorry! Hey-don't use that name!" She says, slightly exasperated.
"Plus, you know how it is don't you..." I mumbled a little sadly, "we stopped talking properly after the incident."
"Oh Anya..." Becky sighed sadly "You know it wasn't his fault--and neither was it your to believe that it was" she said sympathetically.
"Mhm" I drawled "I just...don't think I could ever bring myself to... you know..."
"Uhuh--I'm sorry if I pushed things--" she said a little sheepishly but I shrugged it off. After a while we were back to laughing and I was back to listening to Becky ramble on about the new couple featuring in Berlint in Love, her favourite show that had been running for years.
