"Oh Damian, I'm so glad you're going to the alumni meet!" My mother, who had come to meet me for the third time in a row this week, exclaimed, delighted as she took a sip from her cup with her favourite chamomile tea.

"Did Jeeves tell you?" I asked, crossing my legs as I sat down uncomfortably, "well, I did tell him to keep a tabs on you, I apologise," my mother chuckled, "Yeah, I know, he tells you everything, he has been for years,"

"Oh yes," My mother smiled with dreamy eyes "his recounting of those endless tales felt so fun to listen to, like how you had your first dance with Anya Forger-"

I almost spat out my tea at the mention of Forger but then pretended to keep my cool, shifting around awkwardly in my seat.

"Oh yeah, that stupid commoner from years ago, I remember" I pretended to scoff as if I was definitely not thinking about her every night. "Really Damian," my mother shook her head and sighed, "She's become a civil servant, did you know? She works at the foreign ministry," my mother beamed.

"That's great, good for her."

Really, really great, I'm so happy for her.

I pretended not to think about Anya Forger because I did not need my heart to do a double flip and remember how Becky kept screaming "You're in denial" over and over.

(A/N: De😏nial😏 is🙃 a🤗 river🤭 in Egypt🎀)

Which then brought me back to the current situation.

"Everyone's making the Alumni meet a huge deal and I don't know why." I complained as I relaxed my shoulders and slumped onto the sofa like a little child deprived of productivity.

"It's because it's an important part of the story you dimwit and the author's been dragging it for too long" you said.

"What?" I said, knotting my brows,

"What?" you repeated "Uhh-nothing-pretend I never existed-" and with that, you turned into a cricket and flew away.

(A/N: Sorry, I'm sorry.)

"Say, are you still um...in contact with...Forger's mum?"

"You mean Yor?" she blinked a couple times as she inquired,

"Yes," I nodded.

"Well, we speak a little less frequently than us ago but yes, I do say hello," she hummed.

Great.

"That's fun..." I said

"Oh right," my mother said, as if she just remembered something, "I got you something to wear"! she beamed enthusiastically.

Honestly, I get her enthusiasm, I used to try my best to avoid functions, galas etc etc and got into trouble on purpose so I could be put on probation. Sometimes, I'd even pray I could just get exiled whenever someone's wedding invitation was brought up.

Not knowing what to expect I sat up a little straight and put my arms on my knees, clenching and unclenching my fists over and over as my mother asked one of the servants to bring in-whatever I was to wear-to the alumni meet.

"Tada!" She exclaimed a few moments later as she revealed a beautiful black tuxedo with an emerald green vest to match the greenish hue of my hair. It had a matter finish and silver buttons were dotted down, with the Griffin, symbolising our family's crest.

"Isn't this-?"

"Your father's," she nodded, a little stiff now,

"How did you- I mean-" he'd never let me wear any of his clothes.

"Let's say, I persuaded him a little," she said, not elaborating further on the whole thing.

"This is-I mean-I really like it-it's-"

"Stand up for a moment," she said, holding the vest in her hands. Reluctantly, I stood up from my seat towering over her slightly, she held the vest against my chest and looked into my face, making me stumble backwards slightly, "It's perfect," she nodded

"really?" I said

"Oh yes, perfect, it looks perfect," she replied, in somewhat of a trance.

With that, we were done, the conversation was over and as my mother walked out the room I yelled after her,
"Hey mom?"
"Yes?" she replied, turning her head towards me
"Thanks," I said, a little flustered.

She smiled and said "you're welcome" after which Jeeves escorted her back to the main building.
