Shanise
Chris and I have been doing great, though we are still figuring out where this relationship is going. Not much has changed; he was still my best friend. It sucks that I had to lose another friend. I wasn't sure where our friendship with Jay stood, but since he walked away from our friendship after high school, I wasn't really losing a friend; if it was truly gone, that friendship was already lost. I was sitting on the sofa waiting for Chris to return when Nehani walked in; she didn't say anything; she walked straight into her room without saying a word. She had been spending a lot of time out of the house with her best friend, even though I'm not sure if they were a couple because things have been weird since they slept together, and rumor had it that he was still with that girl. I just didn't want my sis to get hurt, so I was worried about her. I tried to focus on what I was doing, but something was telling me to go check on my sister, and after wrestling with myself over whether or not to check on her, I finally got up and knocked on her door,
"Just a minute," she says. I hear her shuffling around before the door opens. She has a hickey on her neck and looks like she's been crying. I ignore the hickey and ask her what's wrong?"
"Nothing, Nise, is there anything you need?" she says
"Don't tell me anything. I can tell you have been crying."
"Well, I don't want to talk about it."
"Fine, let's talk about the hickey. You and Jake are getting serious, huh."
Instead of replying, she stomps away and throws herself on her bed.
"Nei, what's up?" I say
"You were right," she mutters
"Right about what?" I ask
"He is still with her; he's been playing me this whole time." Tears start to run down her cheeks.
I just held her, hating that my sister was hurting. After she calmed down a bit, she slowed her breathing enough to be able to talk.
"I can't believe I fell for his bull; not even an hour after I left, he had her over there," she says, getting up and pacing. "I hate him; what type of friend does that? I asked point blank, and he promised me. He gave a whole speech about wanting to be together."
I kept my mouth shut and let her get it all out when there was a knock at the door. I didn't know if I should answer it, but Nehani was so lost in her thoughts and pacing I doubt she heard it. I walk over to the door to see Jay standing there. I didn't even know Nei followed me out of the room, but before I could ask what he was doing there, Nei was in his arms, and he was holding her.
"I should have listened to you, Jay; you were right. He was not a friend to me at all. He just wanted access," she said. I could tell she was trying not to cry again.
Jay carried her back into the house since she was wrapped around him. I couldn't help but wonder what the hell was going on with my former friend and sister. He walked over to the sofa and sat down as Chris came in.
"Did you hear me coming? What's going on there?" he asked, noticing Jay and Nehani.
"I don't know, but let's give them space," I say.
"I don't need space; I need my village," Nei says, still lying on Jay's shoulder.
Chris and I looked at each other before closing the door and walking over.
"What's going on a little bit," Chris says, calling her by the nickname he gave her in high school.
"Men are jerks," she says
