♤Chapter 5: A Strange New Feeling♤

Months have passed since Xenophanes was let into the castle. His experience there hasn't been bad. Xanthus treats him very well and respects him like a person. A friend. Although his servants are rather sceptical towards the crystalline beast, their king has told them to at least treat him with respect. They do, somewhat, but they still show a bit of distain towards him. Xanthus, on the other hand, has started to experience a strange feeling around Xeno. Every time he's around him, he feels an odd sense of comfort and warmth. He tends to make even the most mundane parts of his life interesting, one with his wacky shenanigans. He makes his life more fun. Even if it causes trouble for others. As the purple hedgehog woke up from his sleep, he went downstairs to have some breakfast. The crystal beast was sitting on one of the chairs along with Loss, who stared at him in suspicion. "Good morning, you two." He greeted them, waving his arm a bit. "Morning your highness." The knight greeted back, putting his hand up. "Morning Xanni!" The beast greeted him loudly, getting up from his seat excitingly. "Sit back down. Monster." The other told him sternly, making the beast sit down saddened. "Loss.... We've talked about this. Stop being so aggressive towards him." The king told his knight sternly. Loss scowled slightly before he asked Tails, "Mind getting us some breakfast? Tails?"
Tails nodded willingly before he went into the kitchen and grabbed their food. "Do I get anything....?" He asked sheepishly. "Sandwich. You get a sandwich." Xanthus told him, eating a bit of his food. "Th-Thank you, sir!" He thanked his king in hope. "Of course." The king replied back. After breakfast, Xeno washed his face and wanted to hang around with Xanthus. He was the only person who would actually talk to him without being callous or rude to him. He went to him nervously, knowing that he's probably very busy. "Hey... Xan...?" He began. "I know you're probably very busy, but could we perhaps hang out today?"
Xanthus looked at him concerned before responding, "Of course. It's my off day today, anyway." Xeno eyes lightened up slightly before hugging him happily. "Thank you!" He cheered, wagging his tail. "I- Uh- N-N-No problem!" The king replied, feeling rather blushed. The beast backed away from him happily, asking, "You wanna go out today?" The purple hedgehog looked at him frozen, still feeling blushed from the hug. "... Xanni..?" Xeno asked him concerned, wondering why he hadn't responded. "Huh...? Oh! That. Uhhhh.... We'll hang out today." He replied, snapping back to reality. The crystal beast wagged his tail, happy that he's hanging out with his friend. As he walked away, the king still couldn't help but feel very blushed. After taking a shower, he put on his gloves and boots as he went to the front of his castle, where the crystal beast was waiting for him! "Xanni!!" He greeted him happily, hugging him in excitement. The purple hedgehog patted his head in joy before turning his head to him and asking, "You wanna go out today?" The beast nodded happily before he took his hand and walked out of the castle. As they walked around the nearby forest, both hedgehogs attempted to engage in conversation. "Hey Xanth?" He began. "Do you... Have any friends?"
Xanthus looked at him with concern before responding, "Well, aside from Loss, I do have other friends. I know this guy named Noah. He's a sentient fursuit thingy, and he visits my castle every now and then. I'm not sure where he lives, however..." As he gestured his hand to his waist. "Anyone else?" The beast continued to question. "Hmmm.... Lord X, Sarah, Fatal Error, Hog, and maybe Cyclops? Yeah, they're all my friends." The purple hedgehog continued to explain. "Wow! You have so many friends! But you still don't seem very happy..." Xeno added, looking a bit empathetic. "Heh. You don't have to feel bad. I'm not a very social person. So I rarely talk to them." The purple hedgehog explained to him. "Really? I didn't know that.... Wait. If you're not a very social person, how come you're so talkative to me?" The beast asked, intrigued. The purple hedgehog paused for a moment, realising that he was sorta right. For the past few months, Xeno has been the only person Xanthus could talk to without him being awkward. He's the only person he had talked to where he listens to every word he says and shows genuine interest in what he has to say. He spaced out a bit, feeling these thoughts bottle up more and more and concerning his friend. "...Xanthus?" The beast questioned, looking concerned. "Huh...? Oh yes...! About that...... I don't actually know the answer. I guess I just... Enjoy being with you." The purple hedgehog explained slightly confused. "Really? I didn't know I meant that much to you!" The beast commented, making the other blush in surprise. "I-Its nothing, I suppose...." The other replied, reddened by the comment. As the two continued walking around the forest, they reached a cliff. There was a beautiful view of the castle from afar. Making the view look majestic! They sat down, both holding hands as they watched the nice view. "Wow.... This is such a nice scenery! Have you been here before Xan?" The beast commented before asking the other. "No... I've never been here before. I barely step foot around here unless I need to calm down or relive myself from any stress." Xanthus replied, looking at the beast. "Stress? Like what?"
"The kind that nearly makes me have meltdowns. And any references to a certain someone i hate..." The king explained, giving a sheepish smile. "You have meltdowns? But your life... You said it's boring." Xeno asked concerned, wanting to know more. "Sometimes, when things get too complicated or intense, it starts becoming really stressful, at least for me. And I nearly have a meltdown. And when I'm on the verge of having one, I hide away, so no one sees it." The purple hedgehog explained to the crystal beast. "Really...? Wow. I never knew that. I never knew you would get stressed easily. And you mentioned someone you don't like.... Who is that?"
"... My Ex. I used to date him back in high school." Xanthus explained, looking a bit saddened. "He cheated on me, however." He continued to explain. "Why did he do that?" The beast asked, intrigued. "I had some really bad gender dysphoria during high school.... I started to not like my body... And when I started transitioning, he began to slowly... Despise me." He explained some more. "And eventually... He cheated." He looked at the moving sky, tears slowly trickling down his face. He covered his face with his hands as he cried quietly. Xeno looked at the purple hedgehog, feeling bad for what he's been through. He snuggled his head against his, purring slightly. "How come you've never told me this..." He asked in a low tone. "I didn't tell you because... I thought it wasn't that important. And because high school was a very dark era I never want to experience ever again." Xanthus explained, feeling a sense of comfort as Xeno rubbed his cheek against his. The purple hedgehog giggled a bit, placing his hand on the others back while the crystal beast took a hand out and wiped the tears from his face. "Please don't be sad... I don't like seeing you that way." The beast voiced, hugging onto him. The purple hedgehog blushed noticeably, completely frozen as the beast clenched onto him, snuggling his cheek with his. Soon, the beast noticed and became confused. "Hm? Xanni?" He asked, perplexed. Xanthus looked at him with his glistening yellow eyes, completely enamoured by his presence, before hugging him senseless and throwing the beast off guard. The beast simply smiled, wagging his tail.
When they arrived back at the castle, it had already turned late. The king yawned before he told the beast, "I'm tired... I'll go to sleep first. You can sleep whenever." Before heading upstairs to his room. Laying on his bed, the purple hedgehog couldn't help but think about Xeno. His mere presence being strangely comforting for him, how he makes his once mundane life more unique and such and such. That's when it hit him...
"Am I.... In love with him?!" He realised it quickly, his face being red as fire. He covered his face and kicked his legs. After so long, he's finally found himself a possible partner. But there were some thoughts on his head that started to overwhelm him. What would the kingdom think? What would his servants think? He decided to hold these thoughts till morning. And went to sleep.
