~3 months and 1 week later~

Aurora

Lucas turned one last week. One whole year of Lucas.

We held a small party for him and even though he didn't quite understand what was happening. He definitely enjoyed having everyone together.

Theo had moved out a little over a month ago and it was a very hard day for us all. Theo was sad that he wouldn't see Lucas every single day anymore and I was sad that I wouldn't see Theo everyday. Theo had apparently told Mattheo that he wanted to wait until after the divorce was finalised before he moved out because he had to make sure I was 'okay'. Which I was. I was so happy for Theo, he'd spent years making sure I was happy and now it was his turn.
We took it in turns having Lucas and we made our dysfunctional family work.

Today was a Saturday and I'd just dropped Lucas off to Theo and Astorias for a few nights.

Mattheo said he had some plans for us later and I wasn't quite sure what that meant but he told me to get myself 'all dolled up'. He said to be ready by 5pm and the time was now 3 so I made my way upstairs.

Mattheo

Today was the day. I'd had a lot of help from Draco and Theo to get this perfect. It had to be perfect.

The time on the clock now read 16:45, meaning Aurora would be down any minute now. My palms were sweaty as I placed cutlery on the table. I hope this went well.

The sound of heels on the marble stairs caught my attention. I walked into the foyer and looked up to be met with a sight that made my mouth drop open.

She was wearing that dress, that damn green dress from 2 years ago. The one she wore the night of the ball and even though she was older now, she looked just as beautiful as she did the first time.

I held my hand out for her to take once she reached the bottom on the stairs.

"You are beautiful" I said as I spun her around.

"You look very handsome" she said with a small smile.

"Follow me" I led her into the dining room and pulled out her chair for her. Once we were sat, I poured her a glass of wine and snapped my fingers, indicating to the house elves to bring out the food.

Two bowls of pasta were placed in front of us and I looked up at Aurora to see a huge smile on her face. She loved pasta.

"What's the occasion?" She asked, letting her eyes fall onto my face.

"Do I need a reason to spoil my girl?" I asked with a raised brow.

"No, of course not" she shook her head lightly and let out a laugh.

After we had finished eating and had gotten through a whole bottle of wine. I stood up from the table

"Come on, there's one more thing" I held my hand out to her again, like I had earlier. Her eyes widened but she placed her hand into mine and I guided her out onto the patio.

Bundles of light pink roses were placed around, and candles. Lots of candles. I looked at her to see her eyes wide and her mouth dropped open.

"Mattheo, this is- this is beautiful" she looked back at my face after taking in her surroundings. She looked away once more to look at the roses and this was my opportunity. I dropped down onto one knee and pulled a box out of the pocket of my suit jacket. She spun around quickly, obviously seeing movement in her peripheral vision.

Her eyes were as wide as saucers now, tears welling up and threatening to spill.

"Aurora Decampo, since the day I met you I knew we were destined to be together. You brought out a side of me that I didn't know existed and when I knew just how much you were struggling, I promised myself that I would be the one who saved you. That I would be the one who stopped you from falling and hitting the ground. You've changed my life in ways that you'll never know or understand. There is nothing I wouldn't  do for you or Lucas. I promise to keep him safe. I promise to keep you safe. For the rest of my life, until I take my last breath. Aurora Decampo, will you marry me?"

"Yes, yes Mattheo. I'll marry you" tears were streaming down her face.

I carefully took the ring out of the box and placed it onto her finger. It was a white gold band with a 2 carrot oval shaped diamond, surrounded by small emeralds. She held her hand up into the light to look at it and when she saw it properly, she grabbed ahold of the collar of my shirt and pulled my lips to hers. They clashed together roughly as i forced myself back onto my feet. I wrapped my arms around her waist and spun her around. She smiled against my lips and when she pulled away and looked into my eyes, I realised id get to look into them for the rest of my life. My perfect girl. When I met her she was cold and broken but now she was nothing but light and warm.
