Flint"Be quiet." I snap.
Sterling raises his hands in surrender, standing in the creek of the door. "Dad wants you." He whispers before disappearing again.
Shoulders tense I glance down at the sleeping girl next to me. Her hand still in mine I rub my thumb along the outside of her hand a few times before pulling away.
Closing the door softly behind me, in order not to wake her, I make my way downstairs. Dread filling me. I wanted her to be gone before he came back. But of course she just had to fall asleep.
It's mostly my fault. I didn't have the heart to wake her.
She looked so peaceful. Elegant even. And my stomach tied itself into knots thinking of her leaving.
Which makes no sense and I'm deciding not to dwell on it.
Stopping in the threshold of the kitchen, not daring to step closer than is necessary, I eye the man sitting at the kitchen table.
Navy stands behind him, doing the dishes. Which I know is more for my sake. And even though I'll never say it out loud I appreciate it.
"You wanted me?" I shift on my feet slightly. Itching to disappear back up stairs.
He flicks his wrist at the chair opposite him, taking a sip of his tea. "Take a seat."
I don't bother even glancing at the chair. "No." I won't be closer than necessary.
The stubborn part of me also just wants to disobey him.
His eyes narrow and before he can even open his mouth Navy's opening his. "Flint."
My eyes fall to him. I watch as he tilts his head up, his eyes going to the ceiling before returning to me. As if to say remember she's up there.
My resolve wavers and I'm sitting before I can second guess myself.
The stubborn part of me disappearing. I won't cause a scene with her here.
Jaw clenched I look at the man opposite me. My father but never a dad. I look him right in the eyes, refusing to show any type of weakness. I'm not scared of him.
He takes another sip of his tea. Completely calm in his demeanour. "Care to explain why you kicked down Greys door?"
Fucking snitch.
