Arabella"Hi." I grin, doing a little wave.
Uncle Cameron, who stands in the threshold of his front door, pulls me into a hug. Which is hard to do considering Flint refuses to drop my hand.
He pulls away, beckoning us in with a wave of his hand. "Welcome, welcome." He says, following along after us as we make way to the back garden. "Everyone else is already here."
My nerves sky rocket at seeing everyone already in the back garden. I haven't seen most of them in years. My dad never joins his side of the family for any of the holidays, his parents and most people of his family heavily disapproving of my mum. That in turns causes a few of them to disapprove of me.
He says he refuses to associate with people who don't accept us. I say he's a liar. He doesn't join his family simply because he doesn't want to. It has nothing to do with their treatment of my mother and me.
A couple of kids shuttle past my feet, rushing into the house, a younger boy running after them, holding a worm.
Flint scowls at them, placing his hands on my hips to steady my balance. "Fine?" He whispers in my ear. And I'd say he's a physic for sensing my discomfort, but it's practically on show for everyone to see. The fact we're still standing in the doorway being proof enough.
Before I'm able to answer a girl around my age comes running towards us, all grins and smiles as she pull me into a hug. Which again, is hard to do with Flint pulling me back against him.
"Arabella, hi, Uncle Cam said you were coming but truthfully I didn't believe him. How long has it been since I last saw you? You're really pretty by the way. Two? Three years? Maybe? I dont know, it doesn't matter anyways." She rushes out, grasping my hand in her as she pulls me into the garden.
She guides me over to a bunch of people roughly my age standing in the corner. There's two other girls, three guys.
One of the girls smiles at me, my cousin Charlotte, she's Aunty Eden's daughter.
The other girl, my cousin Elise, Aunty Eleanor's daughter, offers a typed lipped smile like she's trying to hide a scowl.
Aunty Eleanor is one of the people who openly dislikes my mother. Therefore openly dislikes me too.
Isabelle, the girl who pulled me over, Charlottes fraternal twin sister, bounces in her step, smiling widely.
Enzo, the youngest out of all of us, at I believe to be 15, Aunty Eleanor's oldest son, shuffles on his feet awkwardly, glancing at anything that isn't me.
