Hunger is not funny business, it's not something to joke about. Hunger can be the reason of death in many different circumstances, but also it could be a sin. Gluttony, bad for everyone but worse for Odette. She held on to her stomach as she let out venomous cries, every breath she took was like it brought her closer to hell. She knew she wasn't meant to live this life, she was meant to be mortal, she was meant to have a happy life with her family. But with every step she took, misfortune happened. Her parents abandoned her, her foster family died, she turned into a creature of darkness. It was as if she was made to be alone.

She walked as much as she could, the cold anxious breeze that pushed past her hit her like a bag of bricks. She fell, her hand turning to a fist, dirt and grass stuck between her fingernails. She let out a scream, one that was strong enough to knock the animal that was passing by down. Her head shot up when she noticed it, she didn't hear it at first, she smelt it; the smell of a sweet liquid and delicious meat that reminded her of Thanksgiving dinner. In the blink of an eye, she was in front of the dead animal, her long, dirty fingernails stuck in the animals flesh, ripping it to shreds. She pushed the flesh to the side, dropping her head to the body and biting. The taste of a meaty, juicy substance entered her mouth, she loved the taste. She kept eating, she felt her entire front side covered, she wasn't sure with what, nor did she care. She needed this, it was perfect.

The sound of a stick breaking broke her from her trance, she looked down and saw what she had been eating.

A deer.

It was just a baby, caught at the wrong place, at the wrong time. She felt a different liquid, now on her face, she had wondered if it was blood before she wiped it, only to feel more liquid streaming down her face — she was crying.

"Are you okay?"

Her eyes snapped from the deer to the tall man who had gotten closer to her. "Please stay away from me, I'm dangerous." Her brown eyes flickered, she blinked and they turned red. This didn't scare the man, he squatted and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"You're no more dangerous than I am, darling," he whispered, offering his hand, that she took. He helped her stand up, "my name is Louis, can you tell me your name?"

"Odette, I'm seventeen, can you help me?" She pleaded, her lip shook as her tears never stop. If she could, she would cry a river and flood the whole world. "I need help, there's something wrong with me."

Louis shushed her and trapped her in a hug, "it's okay, you're safe now."
