Going back to the reception turned out to be a lot more fun than expected, for both me and Alex. The cause of this were two new guests. Miles Kane, who'd arrived late and Audrey, who had a lot to pick up with Alex after where they left things off last night.

I did not know whether to feel jealous of Audrey or of Miles. Well, probably Miles because in this case the love and excitement was mutual. The second they saw each other, their eyed lit up and it was all hugging and kissing from there.

"I didn't think you'd make it." Alex said as Miles ruffled his hair.

"Come on, I haven't seen you in months brother! And ofcourse, I couldn't miss Nick's wedding."

"And aye you," Miles smiled at me.

"Took you long enough to notice me."

"Don't be like that now" He said, giving me a side hug.

Miles soon stole me away from the crowd and Alex. I didn't mind or realise. He had this warm, happy energy and it was so infectious. It's just what I needed after how rough the day had been.

While Miles and I talked, Alex was left alone with Audrey. I noticed them talking. She was drunk and being close to him just like last night and he was being mostly neutral, apart from the obligatory niceness. I did not feel particularly threatened by Audrey after Alex told me he wasn't interested in her, but I couldn't help but feel strange as I observed them from afar. To know that they went all the way back and how much they had in common. I always thought I was the girl who was the closest to him and knew him for the longest but Audrey's proximity to him was making me feel otherwise.

"Are you even here?" Miles asked as I kept looking back at them.

"Yeah, sorry."

"Okay because I wanted to ask you something? Something personal."

"Go on."

"Do you... like him?" He asked tentatively.

"Who?"

"Alex."

"Oh, Gosh no!"
I acted disgusted. As if.

"Does he like you?"

I pray so.

"Absolutely not! Why are you even asking me all of this?"

"You've both been acting really different towards each other than what I'm used to. I don't know what it is, but something's changed."

"See, this is why you shouldn't abandon your friends. You've just forgotten things. Nothing's changed." I tried to playfully manipulate him.

"You can't joke your way out of this. Something has!"
He wouldn't stop doubting.

"I assure you, nothing has." I insisted.

"Okay, I trust that you are honest to me."
He half-heartedly let it go.

Shortly (and thankfully) after the strange questioning by Miles, the couple got on the dance floor to have their first dance. This diverted all our attention. We gathered around and watched the newly weds dance and after it ended, the rest of the guests joined with their partners.

"Do you wanna dance with me?" Audrey asked Alex.

We were standing close to each other so I couldn't help but overhear the conversation.

"Uh, actually I was about to ask Kristen."
My heart was doing backflips after hearing him say that.

I couldn't hear her response. She murmured something and walked away looking a little hurt.
