The school day had gone by relatively slowly, and by the time lunch period arrived, I was genuinely surprised by how much time had gone by given it felt everything was going in slow motion that morning.

Bella and I had started sitting with our old friend group again at lunch instead of the notable table we had resided at for lunch for the past four months — that being the "Cullen" table.

This day, in particular, Bella seemed much more "alive" than usual.

Normally she preferred to be alone, and speak as little as possible to anyone, even around me at lunch. However, ever since she began spending more time with Jacob on the weekends regarding their motorcycle project, she seemed to become more of herself again.

This was strange to me, as I wondered what it was about him that made her start to come out of her dark, hollow shell that she had been hiding in for months. Yet, at the same time, I still felt grateful for his impact on her, and that she was coming around more, and not in a forced way.

I walked by her side over to the crowded table, where Mike, Jessica, Angela, Eric, Tyler, and Lauren were seated around the circular table chatting amongst themselves.

As we both sat down beside each other in two vacant chairs next to where Angela was seated, I noticed Lauren's cold eyes peer over at us from across the table — her rude glares were always hard for me to easily ignore.

She was never happy to see us, though I never understood why and excused it as her being any average mean girl who hated anyone who was different from her — given Bella nor I had done anything to her.

When I quickly, yet subtly looked up at her while she was turned away talking to Jessica, I noticed her perfectly long blonde hair had been chopped off into a pixie cut, with most of her hair shaved in the back of her head.

Knowing her, she'd never choose to do that, making me wonder why her hair was cut that way, but I refrained from judging, seeing as I didn't know the reason behind it.

Meanwhile, Mike had begun talking with Bella and even went to sit beside her just to do that. I wasn't interested enough to listen in on what he was saying to her, which is when I decided to listen to what the others were talking about, as most of them seemed pretty entranced by whatever Angela was talking about.

"What do you think it was?" I heard Jessica ask Angela.

"I don't know," Angela defeatedly replied. "We think it was a black bear, but it honestly appeared far too big to be one in my opinion."

"Ang, maybe you should keep that to yourself," Jessica commented. "People will start thinking it was something else — like Big Foot perhaps."

"Or an alien," Lauren mockingly added before laughing.
