"Carlisle, please."

"Alice, we can't," Carlisle calmly stated. "We already made a promise to Edward that we'd stay away from them."

"Why does that have to apply to me?" Alice responded desperately. "Why do I have to be prohibited from returning to Scarlett, all because Edward doesn't want us near her and her sister again under the pretext that it will keep them safe?"

"Even if you return to Forks on your own, you'll still be noticed eventually," Carlisle pointed out. "Word will go around the town and only draw more suspicion on our entire family."

"There's also Bella to consider," Esme added. "It wouldn't be fair for you to go back for Scarlett, and for Bella to be without Edward."

"I know." Alice defeatedly responded.

"And we all know that Edward has no plans on returning, even to us," Rosalie chimed in sternly. "He'll likely isolate himself for the rest of his life, wherever he is."

"He'll come back when he's ready," Esme encouraged. "Once Bella has moved on from him."

"Yes, when she's living her life — safe from danger," Carlisle added.

"Does he really believe she'll just move on from him like that?" Alice questioned stiffly. "If he knew Bella as well as he claims to, he would know that she's not going to forget him or let go of him as if he never existed."

"Well, if he believes this is the only way to keep her safe from the dangers of our world, then there's nothing that can be done or said to change his mind," Carlisle said.

"That's just it," Alice began. "It's not going to — neither of them will do well in our absence. Why doesn't nobody see that?"

"Alice, you need to let this go, and her," Rosalie argued. "I thought you previously agreed with Edward that this was the better choice."

"I did," Alice replied, her tone filled with guilt. "He insisted that leaving would protect them both from the threats of our world, and that was foolish of me to even believe and agree with."

Alice's darkened, coal-black eyes looked down, as she exhaled deeply, before looking back up to meet eyes with the others near her.

"I want Scarlett to be safe, more than anything, especially from predators with the same intentions that James had," she began with a pause. "But us leaving them behind will amount to nothing — Scarlett and her sister will never move forward from this and will only deteriorate the longer we stay away, and he should've known that before making us do this."

"Well, in case you didn't know," Rosalie began harshly. "Your little girlfriend and her sister are the reason we got stuck in this position in the first place, so why should we even care about the state they're in—"
