The following day felt just as dreadful as the day prior.

I didn't want to wake up and be reminded of yesterday and feel the aching pain in my heart that only settled when I finally managed to fall asleep through my tears.

Although it was a new day, the familiar emptiness hadn't dissipated yet, and I worried it wouldn't vacate my body anytime soon — not after what occurred yesterday.

Unable to go back to sleep, I went downstairs and entered the kitchen, where I saw Bella sitting at the kitchen table with a half-eaten egg on a plate in front of her.

"Morning." I greeted her.

"Morning," she greeted back. "Did you want me to cook you some eggs?"

"No, that's okay," I declined. "I think I'll settle for cereal instead."

She nodded as I retrieved a carton of milk from the fridge and a half-empty box of cereal from the pantry. After finding a glass bowl, I poured my cereal and milk into it and brought to it the table to eat beside Bella, who was nearly done eating.

As we were eating in silence, Charlie appeared in the kitchen after trudging down the stairs.

"Morning girls." He greeted tiredly.

"Morning." Bella and I nearly said in unison.

He walked further into the kitchen and grabbed his large lunchbox that was sitting on the counter by the sink. After unzipping it, he grabbed the loaf of bread off the top of the fridge along with some sliced meat and cheese from the fridge.

"Isn't it a little early for lunch?" Bella asked him.

"No, I'm just packing some food to take to the river later today." He answered.

"Oh, you're going fishing again today?" I asked.

"Well, Harry and I didn't get to fish long yesterday due to the unexpected rainshower," he explained. "And it's supposed to be nice today, so we're going to try again today while I have some free time from the station."

"That sounds fun." I softly smiled, before it faded.

I could tell Charlie was concerned for us, seeing how distraught we both visibly were regarding Dakota and Jacob.

"You know, I don't have to go fishing..." he murmured. "I could stay back if you girls want me to stay here."

"No, you should go," Bella insisted. "I was planning to call Jess anyway, to see if we could study together for a calculus test coming up."

"We'll be okay, Dad," I added with comfort. "Don't worry."

"Alright then," he responded. "Say, you'll study here or at Jessica's, right?"
